So, just because it may not be appropriate to express yourself in a certain musical way in a worship service, doesn't mean that you have to discontinue or stunt your musical growth & understanding. 8)

I don't see anyone saying that. :-\
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

hey seemunny

T-Block and myself are not attacking you
or your desire to learn I thought I made it clear that I applaud your enthusiasm

We were speaking about ourselves

not you in those last comment

and when we talked about other musicans who turn heads etc
hey lets face it a lot of young musicians and older have forgotten why they are in church to play
they think it is all about the hottest change or the slickest chord

when the reality is the words melody intention
and the spirit is what it is all about

we all have room to grow and sometimes a tug on your coat is just to help you to stay focused while you are doing your thing

no need to take it like an attack because thats not how it is meant

but lets face it we are supposed to be playing to the whole congregation

not just the young folks
or the fellow musicians

we all know that the majority of musicians play to other musicians

so for the benifit of the readers of this post I thought it prudent to drop a reminder

thats fair right?

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

  • Learning more & more of "how to express yourself" inside/out & upside down on your instrument, is always good
  • Being appropriate in any setting is the right thing. And specifically, musicians being appropriate in worship service only makes sense.

However, one thing does not forfeit or cancel out the other thing.

That was my only point.

hey lets face it a lot of ....musicians have forgotten why they are in church to play. They think it is all about the hottest change or the slickest chord, when the reality is, the words; melody; intention; and the spirit is what it is all about.

Let's face it, we are supposed to be playing to the whole congregation, not just the young folks or the fellow musicians.

Fair enough.

I can agree with that. Because again, people in general, and musicians specifically, should know "what's appropriate" in any given setting, including worship service. Common sense goes a long way, even though some people might not use it as much as they probably should (like many of the overzealous musicians you spoke of). lol

But again, understood & fair enough. 8)
