No they aren't man, C# major & C# minor are "worlds" apart.  C# minor is indeed the relative minor of E major.  So, I am really playing in E, LOL.

The accursed key!!!!  >:( >:( >:(

I think there should be a law here on LGM:

Whoever frowns upon the keys of E, A, B,D should be forced to go through all he theory posted here before being helped with "chords; songs etc" ;D

E is cool 8)  C#m is cooler 8) & that with C#M are as New York is to Carlifonia..

Those keys (the white note keys) tend to be favored more by guitar & bass players. Keyboard players tend to prefer the black keys.

However, T-block's favorite key is "black & white" - "Alicia Keys".  8)
I ain't mad atcha...

(and i'm sure he wants me to mention that black & white keys just happen to be "all keys"lol)
Ain't it interesting how "All Keys" could almost be a nickname for Alicia Keys, with a little tweeking of the letters, if you squint cha eyes & tilt cha head? lol

Well, gospel piano player like to play in flat or sharp keys because that is what people mostly sing in...when people start feelin The Spirit and decide to sing, the last thing on their minds are to sing in a natural key. Their  gonna sing in a tone that they are mostly comfortable with, and when people normally talk they talk kind-of flat or sharp tone, so its only natural for them to sing like that (for better or worth).

Mostly people who are trained to sing well pick a key like A to sing in.

As for playing in the minors, yall talking bout playing jazz or blues here. A lot to Jazz and Blues songs are played in minor keys, because of the Blues scale and penetonic minor scale...which is heavely used in those genres.
All the glory goes to God for my talent.

That is absolutely true. I noticed this in church, when pastor would get up and sing, more often than not, she sang in a "black" key. Rarely have i seen anyone sing in the white keys when singing naturally.

Those keys (the white note keys) tend to be favored more by guitar & bass players. Keyboard players tend to prefer the black keys.

Yep that is true too. Guitarists prefer those natural keys because the chord voicings for them are relatively easy and you can play a lot of open chords without having bar the fretboard.

When i play guitar, i default to either E, D, A and C majors. When i am on keys, E is a hated key.

Look at records that arranged or produced by keyboard players vs. guitar players.

For example, Israel and the New Breed (guitar player) vs. Smokie Norful (piano player)

Majority of Israel's songs are in the key of E, some G, and D.

Majority of Smokie Norful's songs are in the key of Ab and Db.

Israel also has a few in C..

But for me, I feel more comfortable in E (a so called white key) than in Bb..But Bb is quite cool for some songs 8)

Hello, I just wanna say that you guys must have some amazing talents. Thru all my years of mylearning and playing, me and music just don't seem to click when I write it out. Its like my music would sound better if I had a band. when I play them by myself it always seems like something is missing . Hey you guys keep up the good work!
Today I tried progressions in another key Ab and here's what I came up with. Take a look/listen and let me know if I could have done something different.

Ab/EbAbBbC
Db/FAbCEb
C/FACEb-passing chord
Bb/FBbCDb
Eb/AbDbF
Eb/BbEbG

repeat w/inversions then go to

F/AbCEbG
Db/FAbCEb
Bb/FBbCDb
EbAbDbF
Eb/BbEbG

Congrats & Welcome to LGM Grissle :)
I'm totally in love with this progression & have personalised it & adapted it in other keys to avoid monotony.

Can you post an example of stuff you would normally play Grissle?
from what you say, I suspect you play alot of rootless voicings :-\

Good to have you on the block.  8)
