i really felt like it was the fact that he stayed SO true to the melody. a singer can sing the melody....but a guitar player has to spice it up a little bit. and i don't mean being buy or using a lot of runs and stuff.....but the way you attack the notes. (slurs, bends, slides, etc)
a lot of the time, a vocal melody that sounds good being sang is boring being played.
