Pat is a great player from Memphis, TN and a protige of Stanley Randolph (NuJynisis / Stevie Wonder) who has a real handle on the rudiments. I have seen him do progressive 16th note paradiddles cleanly at over 200 BPM. We sat together at the Jojo Mayer clinic.

Yeah, I was counting and sometimes Drew Wasn't landing the licks on time. The guy with the Mic had to keep time for him a couple times throughout this clip. Pat is so clean.

I dunno man, that's somewhat of a controversial topic. People that study Spanky tend to receive a lot of flack, but studying Spanky is no different from studying anyone else. Personaly I give Spanky a lot of credit. He's done such a good job of creating his own unique style, that whenever you hear people trying to emulate him, you automatically know who they are modeling themselves after.

Why is it that no one ever gets on Tony Royster jr. for sounding too similar to Dennis Chambers or Billy Cobham? Or you never hear anyone complaining when drummers model themselves after Calvin Rodgers or Gerald Heyward, it's always a credit toward them.

Personaly I don't model myself to be 100% exactly like Spank, because I try to incorporate every drummer I come across into my playing style (Calvin Rodgers, Aaron Spears, Dave Weckl, Ronald Brunar, Tony Royster jr. Thomas Pridgen, Spanky. etc) but let's face it Spanky is a friggin beast, and I'd be lying if I was to say I hadn't studied his approach to music, or stole a couple licks.

I definitely know what you mean but when you hear mostly one influencec in someone then I'm like it's cool but try to find your own voice. Know what I mean? I totally know what you're saying though man. :)
