It's best to start out slow and practice the basics, then progress on. I'm not sure how far along you are, but no matter what level you're at, it's important to start out practicing scales (esp. all your major scales), then practice playing basic chords (ie major, minor, diminished), then practice chord progressions (start w/ the I, IV, V chords).

The best thing to do is to practice and keep practicing. At first, it may be slow and you'll have to think about what you're playing. It's just ie learning to drive or to type. You have to think about what you're doing at first, but after much practice, it becomes automatic.
