Snare Information?
« on: June 28, 2008, 01:26:27 PM »
Whats up! I recently found a yamaha power v steel 5.5' x 14 or 6' x 14 snare drum made in england sitting around. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some info on it cause I couldn't find anything on the net?

By information I mean I want to know whether this snare is worth restoring (needs two tuning rods, new batter and reso heads, snare wires) and what head combo would bring out a warm tone out of it????

Ay, the Power V was Yamaha's first budget kit, which was succeeded by the Club Custom and Stage Custom.

I'd say just go with the 'standard' - REMO Coated Ambassador over a REMO Ambassador Snare Side/Evans G1 over a Evans Hazy 300 and tune the batter head down, with a medium tension on the snare side.

a lil factoid to go along with J_kays advise/commentary....

That drum was made when Yamaha bought/owned Premier and was using Premier's factory.
