need some advice
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:27:20 PM »
im currently in the process of learning the piano, already being a musican i understand the importance of good equipment. now i want to invest in a hammer action keyboard mainly for home practice. ive come across a few such as this http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProKeys88-main.html. however im unsure as to whether its a good keyboard or not. could someone possibly tell me their opinion on this keyboard and advise me on the other keyboards on the the market that are affordable and good value for money.

I know of a few great players who own that board right there & they love it 8)

I think it's a great board to own..Good value for $$..
I would have suggested the Yamaha mo08 as well, but that's if you're willing to spend up to a grand. :-\

But I reckon you'll like the M-Audio Prokeys--I wouldnt mind owning 1.

Check out some discontinued greats like the MP900, MP9500, MP4 all by Kawaii. With real wooden keys. When you play it you'll fall in love. Check craigslist in your area, they go for about $800.

Go try it out in the store first. I played the M-audio, and the action was terrible; too heavy and sluggish. Its only like $400 so you get what you pay for.

I suggest a yamaha Mo8

Yep, thats the problem with inexpensive hammer action or weighted keyboards...very sluggish action. The keys are usually too heavy and clunky and they make a "clunk" noise when you hit them down. You gotta be ready to dish out money for a good wighted keyboard or digital piano.

If you decide to go the digital piano route, be ready to spend money on an amp setup. The in-built speakers are usually horrible!!

If you go the keyboard route and you have money to spare, go the Mo8 round or the Fantom X8.
The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.
