« on: July 20, 2008, 10:49:15 PM »
anyone see review of tye's album in VIBE mag.  'ty only appeals to church, cant cross over, music loud grindy, and BORING'  basically its a washup  --- watch ya think --- no love from secular world---those he's attempting to reach? --- i like the album, but it gave me a lot to think about--why?

In another thread we were talking about how people put color to music like R&B = black person musc, Rock = white person music, etc.  I think that's one of the factors for the bad review.  As you know, Tye's new CD has a ton of Rock on it and not a lot of R&B.  So I'm not really surprised that he music reviewer gave this CD a bad review because of that.

Also, it's the secular world.  They're going to condem anything that comes from the gospel world that may give them something to think about.  They lyrics aren't cotton candy, feel good gospel.  This CD doesn't remind them of that secular song their mom played in the car while you were a baby *cough*nothatin'butkirkfranklinwouldfitinrighthere*cough* .

Most people who actually listen to gospel and have an ear for it like this CD.

maybe the reviewer just didnt like it. So what? I dont like every gospel artist, we all have different taste, so why should I expect others to have the same feelings as me?

This is probably the whole argument right here.  Tye Tribbett is NOT conforming to what the world will like in order to win them.  Some gospel artists may be using samples or secular songs or taking secular songs and trying to make them gospel, but Tye ain't doing that.  Just like his album said, he is STANDING OUT.  It may be getting some bad reviews now, but give it some time.  This album is affecting a lot of people cuz it has TRUTH in it.  The truth will cause one of 2 things:  convert or rebel

I agree, but what impact do you guys think this will have on people's opinion of the album. Sometimes people are persuaded by others views. If his message isnt appealing to those he should be trying to win whats the point.  Its an attack on christianity; its amazing at all the love these r&b, etc albums get (my mind is blown at how popular lil wayne is.  what is he talkn about)  anyway.  Gospel artist struggle to make it in the industry its just saddening to see us continue to knock each other.  Comparing him to Kirk and everything.

On the other hand, this can be a humbling experience, because I think Gospel People have placed Tye on a pedalstool and at times appears to worship everything he does.  The fact is true what the church  loves the world hates and thats good, but we must be use caution in exalting people above others.

DONT GET ME WRONG -- I DO LOVE THE ALBUM --- AND THE BAND IS SICK, OFF THE CHART.  WE ARE TRYING TO REACH THE MASSESS, HIS STAND WILL BE HONORED BY GOD, EVEN IF THE SEC WORLD AINT TRYING TO HEAR IT.  GODS WORD WILL NOT RETURN VOID.

A MEMBER OF MY CHURCH TOURS WITH TYE, SO I AINT MAD AT HIM GOT MUCH LOVE; ALSO I GREW UP WITH TYE OR CHURCHES FELLOWSHIP WHEN TYE WAS JUST STARTING ON THE ORG. AND HE WAS BAD THEN KNOW THE WHOLE FAM. HES PEEPS.

C'mon now, this is VIBE magazine we're talking about.  I read it and I don't expect them to like everything that aint hip-hop.  I mean how would it look for them to give Tye a stellar review and then have a photo spread where a woman has her butt out 15 pages later.  One reviewer has never held a CD's success or failure in their hands.  I don't give them much weight.

no philly; as stated earlier our churches fellowshipped back in the day; his mom, dad and pastor preached at my church and my pastor or other minister preached at his; he's from camden--10 min from philly right across the bridge.

im not surprised at the review, however, you judge music.  as a gospel music fan i can lie when i hear other forms of music that are good.  if its good its good.  i just hate to see artist who already have a difficult time get knocked.  will it stop sales. i doubt it everytime i go into the store the album is gone, its the potential to stop sales that i hate. funny thing is what man does for bad turns out for good.

the bad review is making people want to buy it and listen. i did notice an increase in sales at almost all walmarts and targets i go to.

its good in da hood
