I dont know too much about reason myself. A buddy of mine uses pro tools (which should be in a brown box at my front door sometime next week by the way lol) for all his main recording and mastering. He uses Reason to record his drums and export the track into pro tools. Reason gives you a lot of good sounds to use with midi. Like different drums, basses, pianos, epianos, organs, brasses and strings!
Keys, bass, drums, trombone, I sing a lil bit too lol

I am thinking this may be enough for me to explore
the new reason is supposed to be really really good

I have reason 3 and some of the patches are professional sounding

like some of the horns are really realistic

and the e pianos are pretty good too

4 isn't much different than 3. They added another device called the Thor (synth driven like the Korg MS20) and changed the sequencer a bit but still the same sounds and a tad more patches for each device.

BTW if you want to save money and since you have Reason, you may want to consider to jest get the samples from the motif, triton, fantom and just load then in Reason. I have the Kurzweil micropiano, piano patches from the motif es. and the Roland MKS-20.

whats up ddw4e

i am going to say quite a bit here so pay attention

we didnt really get to vibe too much at hampton this year

I thought the organ class was pretty cool
just not enough time to really learn
but I taped it and got some very good ideas and I think my sound improved as well.

did you hear a difference in my playing this year from last year?

I wish you had played i wanted to hear how you grew

anyway back to the topic

how do you load samples into reason

you just buy the samples or do you get them online for free

then once you have them what do you do then

to be honest I am not happy with the sample scene

maybe it is because I dont know how to spread the sample out properly

i find that they are only usable in like an octave and a half range outside of that they sound terrible

but if you can school me on how to load samples into reason i would appreciate that

finally because I have the roland x8 and will be getting the motif xs
I dont think sounds are going to be my problem

sequencing and recording

if reason is whats up then I can stick with that as my sequencer and basic production system
I know there is a way to get reason to drive your keyboard as well as drive their own music.

this way I can record both my keyboard and reason at the same time in protools

so dont forget

let me know how to get and load samples into reason

thanks again

Definitely! I heard a big difference in your playing this year than last year. I also heard that Sabastian had a shed at the chapel Wed nite and I missed it. I will be sure not to next year and bring my camcorder as well.  I honestly didn't want to play this year cause I want to just listen to other people. I was hoping to see Vanessa (she played last year) but she didn't go. It looks like it was less people this year than last yer, noticed that?

I answer your main question in a short video.

I remember vanessa she was really good

listening is good but you need to let him get you up there and tweak your drawbars and work with your hand position

you will be surprised what you think you know and what you really dont know '

I just knew I was doing something until he worked my drawbars

and made me switch my hand positions

next thing I knew I was playing like a veteran

next year if God is willing be sure to get up there I will make sure you do

Would you be so kind as to share some drawbar settings?

its not like that
the draw bar settings the teacher gave were tailor made for your playing style
your touch thw way you voiced your chords

I came to the clas using draw bar settings that were standard tried and true settings and he tweaked them and changed them for how I was playing

but I will share what he gave me for my style

this is for hymn or worship style music

left hand is playing the chord melody
so you have the melody in your pinky and the rest of your hand is voicing the chord

straight choir voicings like from a hymn book with some added sevents and ninths for color

the left hand is playing a support role usually playing very small two and three notes some times just one note following the right hand in a connected way

not quite liked locked hands style but similar

the draw bar setting was

60  008888800  I am not to sure about the pedal if that was all the way out but start at 6

this next setting was for a rag time effect

I am not to sure about the last stop the one to the far right
I dont know if that was pulled all the way out
or not
the pedal was played with the second draw bar instead of the first one purposely

this is what you would play the old oompah type style with

where your feet hit a one five type thing
and your left hand comps

the right hand will solo on

    08  0888880004
or o8  0888880000

bear in mind these settings are specifically for how you play your touch the lenght of time you hold your hands down

if I go back next year he will probably give me new ones to match my style then

draw bar registrations is a very very very important study for an organist

here is a setting I was given by a visiting musician

880000000

this is for if you are accompaning a piano

I love this setting it is very warm and allwow you to do chording and just lead line single note stuff as well

thanks.

A few of my new favorites are

088800210 right hand soloing

008030000 (which is usually your Ab preset on the lower manual)

I also like to take out the 8' sometimes, it give a nice sound on certain settings

And you are correct, your settings do depend on your style, but it seems like I have so many different styles, so I use a variety of settings. I hope I'll find a style of my own soon.
