I have the mbox 2 and I would really prefer to have a mixer I understand that protools  has to have their mixer run protools

but then I saw a deal on the digi design website that said they were offerering a discount on their 24 track mixer if you trade in your third party mixer

does this mean that there are mixers that work with protools

The answer is yes
but why would you want to

there are a few mixers that allow you to integrate with protools
but some of them are just not worth the time

the command 8 although only 8 channels allows you to switch banks pretty quickly so you shouldnt have too much trouble mixing down a 64 track master piece

I dont think their is any 3rd party hardware that works only digidesign which somehow includes mbox and m-audio (only m-powered pro tools)

from what I understand there are a couple that will work with protools but are not able to integrate all the functions

the command 8 although only 8 channels can flip and switch between banks you can really handle the mixdown on 64 tracks of music with out much fuss

this is on my wish list that and  a wide screen monitor

I did some work for hire in a studio that had a Command 8 and I really hated the thing.     I've been using the Mackie controllers for years and I like them a bit more.  I'm not sure if you can add on to the Command 8 but you can with the Mackie.  Digidesign really needs a control surface that fits somewhere in between the $1000 and $10,000 price range.

Yes, I am well aware of that.  It doesn't mean that the command 8 doesn't suck.

yes I was referencing an earlier post i think the first or second post in this thread

why would you want to when the command 8 can do everything you need to do


I am not as proficient with studio stuff as midi room
but i know my budget is limited so I will be buying the command 8

and just make do

fortunately when you learn  how do something new on a product  you have nothing to compare it to so I will probably enjoy using it since i have no other real studio experience to compare the command 8 to

It will probably work out well for you.  I just didn't like the fact that it is not expandable.  The next step up pricewise is the C24 which retails for 10k

Hello, digi has the 002, 003 factory that are resonable in price. You also can use M-audio mixers with protools. I have the project mix which is a mixer and audio firewire.
