I don't own one, but I recently had the opportunity to play one at a church I was visiting...and now I plan on buying one since I don't have the space for an actual Hammond B3...

The sound is almost identical in my opinion, leslie and all...

I don't own one but they are highly recommended.  I bought a Korg CX3 a few months before the XK3 came out.  At the time, the Korg was probably the best clone.  The XK3 is even closer to the tone.  It's got a tube circuit and the pedal notes are better.

I owned one for nearly 2 years and loved it. The accessories are a bit pricey but the board itself is worth every penny. The tone is right on. I don't think you could get any closer than that. All of that is based on using the XK-3 with an external Leslie. The internal simulator is not that great (even in the new XK-3c).

Here's a video I made last fall of me playing my XK-3 through a Leslie 142.

I'm starting to think docjohn has a side gig as a trek II rep.    ;D

If so, maybe he could get all his LGM buddies a VIP discount or something, hehe.  ;)

Docjohn, I actually used a similar product called a Speakeasy Vintage Tube Preamp to drive the Leslie. It was a great piece of gear.

Zak, go to www.trekii.com for all the details on TrekII products. Once you purchase the XK-3c, find yourself a Leslie before purchasing all the add-ons for the XK-3c. The Leslie is what really makes the difference. To drive the Leslie you'll either need an 1122 kit or the TrekII pedal preamp. The Speakeasy preamp I mentioned above will also work but it's a little more expensive than the others.

I HAVEN'T PLAYED THE XK3 IN A WHILE BUT FROM WHAT I REMEMBER IT HAS A VERY THIN SOUND TO IT. I WOULD USE IT BUT PRACTICE BUT NEVER FOR A GIG!!!

FOR PORTABILITY MY FIRST CHOICE WOULD BE THE NORD C1 COMBO ORGAN WITH THE ROLAND PK-25 PEDAL BOARD. (those pedals have the most authentic feel to me!) WITH A LESLIE 21 UNIT. TRUST ME, WITH THE RIGHT TWEAKS THIS IS A DEADLY COMBINATION!!!

I do have to agree with Catron about the Nord C1. It is an excellent choice as well, and the simulator is one of the best I've ever heard.

I have tons of videos on my YouTube channel playing my XK-3 through a Leslie. Check'em out. You'll have to skip past the videos where I'm playing the Hammond CV.

The C1 sounds great, maybe better than the XK, but They gotta do something about that red cabinet. And I dont care for the buttons instead of drawbars. Thats a deal breaker.

YEAH THE COLOR REALLY DOESN'T MAKE ME A BIT OF DIFFERENCE BECAUSE IT'S NOTHING STAGE SHEETS CAN'T HANDLE. BUT, I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE DRAWBAR BUTTONS!!! I HEARD THAT YOU CAN ASSIGN THE DRAWBAR FADERS TO A REMOTE MIDI CONTROLLER BUT I HAVEN'T TRIED THAT FOR MYSELF SO I CAN'T ENDORSE THAT!!!

BUT IF YOU HAVE THE CAPABILITIES, TRY IT!!!

I've used some Trek ll stuff and it's good, but like a lot of things-I pay real $ like everybody else. So;as soon as a get a break;I'll pass it on family.I haven't had a chance to play a C1,but few friends say it IS the new top dog@99 1/2%.Agree with Ryan, best deal is thru a real leslie;not cheap to get to that point though.WORD says money answers a lot of things!!

Do you have a Leslie connected to it? What settings (not drawbar settings) do you use. If the XK-3 is set right, it can sound just a good as the real deal. I loved mine when I had it. The only reason I sold it was because I wanted a full console and the XK system was way out of my price range.

It's highly recommended. The sound just won't be the same, believe me. I've been there and done that. A real Leslie makes all the difference in the world.
