How many is too many?

We have a praise team that has seen a substantial growth in numbers over the last 5 months.  We are now at 11 members with others wanting to join.  My question is, when is it too much?  How many members can you have before you call it a choir?  We hate to turn people away, but we don't want the pastor to get upset because we have too many.  My suggestion was to have a second praise team.  The only problem, we can't afford another musician to play for them.  I'm not sure what to do in this case.  Any feedback would be great.

I believe we just had this discussion in this section not too long ago.
We had this same situation: we kept the praise team at 7 members and we started a choir which has 9 members (when they all come). They alternate Sundays except when the kids sing on youth day.

Why can't you play for both?
I run our PT and choir rehersal back to back (1 hour each) on the same night and then our childrens choir every other SAT.

Well, the musician that plays for the PT also runs the youth choir, the 8:30 choir and assist with the church choir (Mass Choir.  The other musician plays for the Church Choir also plays for the male chorus and assist at 8:30.  The problem is that no one really wants to sing with the other musician because he's lazy.  He doesn't take the time to learn songs and he makes horrible faces when the other musician is playing.  He's just not good right now.  So we already have a choir of about 30 voices.  We just have too many that would like to sing with the praise team as well.  It's not a bad problem, but I think it would be good to have two teams and alternate Sundays.

I agree with the rotating of teams.  Makes it better.  You can combine them for special events.

A praise team should be 3-6 members, up to 2 people per part.  After that, it's an ensemble, LOL.

I was at my home church this past Sabbath and the praise team was almost as deep as the gospel choir.  There were like 10 or so of them.  And NONE of them sing in the gospel choir and they sing pretty much the same music.  If I were MOM there, I'd change that.  But that's a different discussion.

I didn't know that you were from P-Town.  I'm orignially from Chesapeake.  My pastor grew up in Cavalier Manor.
