how does mtd kingston bass compares to mtd usa bass
« on: September 26, 2008, 11:31:42 PM »
I know one is priced higher than the other, but kingston series is not that cheap itself. Would both be hand made or is just the usa version hand made is it the woods or, is it the electronics that makes the differents, are the tones and sound that far apart. What is it does anybody know. I just wonted to know for my self, is it like fender usa, and you also have fender mims, let me know.

The Kingstons are not hand made like the USA versions. Made in Korea and 'supposedly' finished here in the states by the MTD shop.

Here is a cat playing a MTD KZ5 & it has an excellent tone. Don't let the "Made is the USA" tag steer you into spending, thousands more. The Kingston series are some very nice basses.

It's mainly a difference in point of manufacture, top woods, and electronincs as the USA's are more of the exotic variety.  The Kingstons are still pretty nice as said before because Mike Tobias isn't gonna put his name on some junk.  That man is serious about bass building no matter the level.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

bigfoot bigthumbs, could not have said it better myself. Mike Tobias is definetly not going to put his name on any bass, that does not measure up to his standards

Truth!  I own a passive Kingston 5-string and a few other basses that cost a bit more in comparison.  The Kingston falls short in the electronics department but has a FAST neck and SOLID B string. Buy a used kingston and put in a better pup and/or preamp (if you want to go active) and you'll have a very nice bass for a reasonable amount of cash.

Be Blessed,
J
