Jamal Hartwell's Play by Ear CD
« on: September 08, 2008, 02:10:22 PM »
I purchased Jamal Hartwell's course, "Play By Ear" and gave it a pretty good listeneng to.  I determined that it is a beginners course.  I am only slightly above a beginner, but I was familiar with most of the material that was covered.

I would have benefitted greatly from the material a few years ago, and a review of what is offered could be useful now.  I don't think that I would have purchased the course now for that purpose, but since I have it, I will use it.

If a beginner would learn all of the material put forth on DVD 1(MORE THAN IS APPARENT)in all keys and learned the number system to a point of immediate recall,(all keys) he would be able to play a huge number of worship songs in any key.

Of course, you could cut that down and learn all of it in your favorite keys. Then add as you go.

DVD 2 also gives info on how to learn songs by listening to a CD. Personally, I was already pretty familiar with that. If that is a problem area for you, this DVD could help.

If I were a beginner and wanted to learn worship songs and to play them by ear, I would buy this set.

There are two DVDs and one CD. The CD has the same material as the DVD, but can be used in you car, etc.

Thanks.  I was thinking about buying that, but I already play by ear. I thought it would enhance what I already knew.  I think I might look into his other videos and leave this one alone.  Thanks again for the review.
