Can anyone tell me which one is the best for a beginner

Jamal play by ear
      or
Hear and play by ear

I have came across these two, and I am learning from the begining, I would like to know which one gives you more understanding and break down. So that I will know what I am playing, because I do not like feeling like a robot just playing things I dont understand. Let me know if you know which one is better thanks!

Sebastion's practical applications dvd. Its on the organ, but there is so much great info.
