VERY VERY BAD PROBLEM!!!!
« on: September 18, 2008, 01:23:26 AM »
I Just DON'T know how to lead the people into worship.....They just won't follow me into adoration!

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!!!

WHAT'S THE CATCH? I'm certainly not lacking musically. But people just seem to listen to me in lazyness like it's a show.

I just want somebody to teach me what the focal point of leading worship is.
I Love You!!!

First, you can't look to the people...don't fall into the trap of watching their faces. Keep your focus on God. That's the reason we sing.

It can be a struggle to lead people into worship. Some won't participate at all. Prayer before the service can help, as well as prayer/related Bible verses between songs. Remind them why they are there, encourage them to take the focus off themselves, leave their everyday cares and worries behind, for He's worthy of praise. Singing some simple, very familiar songs may help them get them more involved. Ask people what some of their favorites are.

Lots of churches have a spirited Praise set before they lead into slower Worship songs...

Shows a couple problems BRUH,1st where are these folks heads at? 2nd where is pastors',leadership heads at?  Should be addressed from pulpit ins sermon form/seris,this is why we worship.Sounds like the flock may be unaware of WHO they are coming to see.Heard some preacher say awhile back that maybe 80% of folks IN church are NOT saved!!!!So,salvation and soul winning GREAT place to start;what we have in CHRIST followed up by why/how to worship. Great discernment on your part bro;maybe you could point this out to leadership and get some prayer going. As someone else said,YOU just keep on adoring HIM-AUDIENCE of ONE.check this site out for some whys and hows that most folks are UNAWARE of!    wwwwayofthemaster.com

Simpler songs, with repeating melodies help too. Once you start singing complex songs you can lose people.

Indeed. What types of songs are you doing? What types of songs move the congregation? There can be a difference. Musical style can take precedence for a LOT of folk.

Hey, it is what it is.

Broster, the "focal point of worship" is God and the act of worship is the total submitting of one's self to God.
Basically, if you want the people around you to worship God then you've got to be the first willing person to worship God.
And I don't mean musically. Most anybody can sing a song or play a song, but how many can submit themselves and their will to God and do as He leads? Not just during a song and not just at church, but every day, everywhere and in all things, situations and circumstances...praise Him.
Do that and people will follow you as you follow Him.

I don't have this all figured out and the above words are as much for me as for anyone else, but based on God's word, the Godly wisdom of others and my own experience it seems to be a good place to start.  8)

Also, you probably know this but people in church are coming in with all kinds of burdens and the last thing some of them want to do is sing a happy song to Jesus. They want their messed up stuff fixed and want it fixed now!
Again, based on the word, wisdom and experience I've found that worship is the place to start.
A simple little talk and prayer about letting that mess go before the music starts can help folks lay that burden down at Jesus feet and reach their hands up to their loving Daddy.  :)
Music theory is not always music reality.

Absolutely, totally true. There have been times that i myself have come to church all weighted down and such and i just did not feel like participating.

This is our month of worship in our church and our pastor has challenged us to make it a daily, personal thing. Honestly i don't think folks are taught worship at all. Pastors need to do a sit-down with church folk and expound on what worship is exactly.

First, you can't look to the people...don't fall into the trap of watching their faces. Keep your focus on God.

Total cosign!!! Don't EVER try and "lead" people if you are just trying to force it. Don't even bother. Play what you are playing and let your focus be on God. If you are worried that folk will not respond and you try and force it, you will definitely fail. you will be all stresed out and filled with tension and God will not be able to use you.

This could be a barrier for those who have the desire to worship.  I would try this solution first, the other stuff goes deeper and may take some time to see change.  If it's just song selection, that's certainly the easiest to fix.

Most times, it is song selection believe it or not.  :-\

Isn't that something?  I know sometimes I can sit in a worship service, and if there's too many unfamiliar songs with a lot of words, I kind of feel left out. It takes on more of a concert feel.

That's EXACTLY what happens. When there are songs like that, it's up to the P&W leader to feed the words to the congregation (unless they have the words printed on a screen).

Feeding is cool, but it works best on simple songs with simple repeating verses.
