Deceptive: 2-5-6 Progression
« on: September 30, 2008, 12:01:26 AM »
Here is a 2-5-6 progression. You can use it in place of a 2-5-1.

Key Eb:

F / Ab-C-Eb-G
Bb / Ab-C-D-F
C / G-C-E-G

You got that Ricky Dillard CD right Von Von?  Well, on the track "Holy Spirit", those last 3 chords that are played when the choir sings "fall on.....meeee." is this progression, bass note wise.

I think of it as more of an ending to a love song. Especially ones from the 80s (think Peabo Bryson  :D)

It's early and I'm at work; it's the only name I could think of at the time (and, right now, even).  :D :D

Very nice!

I use this a lot when i want to end a song on a high note. :)

Just turn the minor 6 into a major chord. You can even use it to modulate to another key. Just warn the choir first. :)

Just for an added little theory nugget, when u end with a major 6 chord, it's called a Picardy 3rd.  ;)
