Here's a Question...
« on: October 08, 2008, 02:50:41 PM »
When you're playing, do you know what chords/runs/ you're going to hit before you hit them, or are they unpredictable/spontaneous?

I ask, because a lot of times I see guys playing a song and all of a sudden they'll hit a run and make one of those 'that was sick' faces as if the run even took THEM by surprise. It led me to believe that there was some sort of formula involved where the player didn't know how the run/chord would sound, but he knew that it'd fit.

How does that work?

Well my playin is led my the Holy Spirit. If im really into it, then Im not playing, its God playing thru me and then i would make that "did i do that" kinda face. When im just foolin around and playin, i would play from progressions and what all i know in that key!

I honestly dont think ahead. Since I'm not a theory guy, and rarely play by memorizing chords or hand positions, I just go with the flow.

But now that I'm geting into some "phatter" stuff, I'm paying more attention to what I have to play next.
Also, if I'm really taking the time to learn a song, then I'll think about what comes next, but after I've practiced it a bit, it I'll play it like second nature

And like CJ said, When you are playing under the anointing of the Holy Ghost, you dont know whats gonna happen!

When you're playing, do you know what chords/runs/ you're going to hit before you hit them, or are they unpredictable/spontaneous?

95% of the time, I know EXACTLY what I'm going to play before I play it, even though I don't always know how it's gonna sound.  After I have played it, I will judge the sound and make a mental note of it for future reference.  T-Block don't really do random stuff, I have a plan of attack for everything.

That other 5% is anybody's guess, even mine, LOL.  Sometimes it's God playing through me, sometimes I just hit something by accident and it works so good that I'm suprised by it.

I had planned on typing a long reply, BUT that pretty much sums up what I was going to say.

And another thing, when God has a hold of me, all I can do is make faces! LOL
Play what you KNOW is right; not what you THINK is right
