For me, it's always been about establishing myself a good friend before anything because if I can't be a good friend I can't be a good husband. My thinking in this is long-term. I've always said that I wouldn't get in a relationship just to show the world that I'm in a relationship (what most folk are waiting for who I went to high school with) but I would only get in a relationship if I can see the potential of something long-term. I'm just tired of seeing so many ladies get mistreated by men who are not looking for wives but just someone to say they're in a relationship with.

Keep your feelings in check until you are certain they will be reciprocated.  There's nothing worse than the crash and burn.  Beyond that, YOU know how you feel, if she's feeling the same, she'll let you know. 


And, for the love of God, if it takes a minute before she feels the same way, please don't regale her with how you've longed for her so...you ain't 'Ross'; she ain't 'Rachel; and this ain't a sitcom.

If you share your feelings before you're certain she feels the same way, it could make things very uncomfortable for her, which could also affect the friendship. You want to be able to remain friends no matter what, so be careful with the feelings and stuff.

Also, I'm going to assume you already knew this, but I don't know if it's necessary to let her know you're looking for a wife any time soon. That might scare some girls off (unless she's Apostolic or COGIC lol).

I am definitely considering it. It's a VERY GOOD offer. It's actually a no-brainer.

But flexibility is the issue. I don't think it will give me that flexibility, and I'm not sure how I'll feel about reporting directly to someone I know personally.

Yeah, I can see how you would chafe under authority.

In other news, I am sick and tired of the United Kingdom. I really do not like this country. I'm applying to Canadian schools for my PhD.

Do you plan on living in Canada? If not, make sure you read up on it.

I learned a few things about the psych PhD programs and accreditation. Some positions (particularly jobs with the US Govt, which I would like to have as an option) will not hire psychologists who didn't graduate from an APA accredited school, which means any country out of the US is ruled out. Some programs allow for dual accreditation, but those are few and far between.

Not sure how it works in your field, or if it even matters. But if so, I'd rather you look into it now than after you've planned everything out.

Finance is pretty much standardized across countries. The curriculums are almost the same from school to school. The only issue is that is best to go to a school accredited by the association of business schools. Pretty much all Canadian business schools are accredited (at least the ones I am applying to)

I would have loved to apply to the Harvards and Yales, but I find a 1% acceptance rate unacceptable.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I wish I could do Canada. On average, the acceptance rates for psych PhDs are 2-3%. I found a program today that has a 13% acceptance and I almost danced myself into a tizzy! LOL! Also, Hawaii has a 5-8% acceptance. Those are unusually high.

I hate those odds.
