    • Find me on the book

Came to the door, and knocked. I looked through the window, and asked, "How can I help you?" Of course, they gave me their opening line, "I have a special message I would like to share with you yada, yada." I responded, "Absolutely, not! Not today!" (I didnt want to kill all their hope, but Im a firm dont open the door for JWs guy, anyway)And they left. When I came back to the table, moms asked who it was, and when I told her, she said, "Well did you tell them to GET OFF YOUR DOORSTEP!" And thats when she shared with me this scripture........

" Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
" - 2John 1:9-11

Has anybody ever lived by this? What do you do? What have you done? What do you think about it?

Living in Mormon country, I heard this scripture a lot, and we were pretty strict in adhering to it.  We would entertain mormons on a social level, but not when they came to the door bearing their "gospel".

When I was in college I let some JW's in my dorm once, big mistake.

My policy now is to politely decline and not to entertain anything they have to say.

...What do you do?...

On Thanksgiving Day? Man, that's rude and inconsiderate. You eating dinner and enjoying your family and a JW comes by? I might've laid my cross down for about 30 seconds if that happened to me.

Anyway, I don't let them in my house. I don't even listen to their spill. I kindly interrupt them and ask them nicely to not come back. and I don't send them away with a "God bless you".

I engaged with them once or twice. I think they train them in how to argu... I mean, witness.

I just say "not interested" and close the door. But that was indeed rude for them to come on thanksgiving. They were probaly just jealous that they werent celebrating with some good food. Shoot, they was probaly hoping that you'd give em a plate.

I guess since they don't "celebrate" holidays, they don't mind crashing yours, lol!

This thread reminded me of Doubles' "Kirby" incident, lol!  That's one way to go...

The other Doubles method would be to begin frantically searching for something, LOL!!!

I just love how we're calling them JW's. Anyways, my sunday school teacher had two JW's come by and he said well if you give ur doctrine mumbo jumbo, you have to let me give you a bible study. They came a couple more times just for a bible study!!! So just be Christian about it, and if you have a chance give them a bible study!
i'm lost in music and i hope no one ever finds me...

JW's haven't come by my house in years. I never ignored them when they came knocking on my door. I would go to the door and they would get started and interupt them and tell them nicely, "I don't believe in what you're talking about. Please remember "not" to stop by here again when your over this way again".

I don't like to be rude to people. But I will get rude because some would try to continue talking. I'd have to shut the door in their face. But I'd do it nicely, with a smile, lol.

I drive by a JW building on my way to work.  It makes me lol because it's out in the middle of nowhere!

But anyway, my question is there are Christians who study other religions even though they don't go by them.  They just find them interesting.  Does that verse speak against what they're doing or is that something totally different?

I think it's a different thing, but definitely a venture where one would want to proceed with caution.

I see nothing wrong with studying other religions. How are you gonna relate to someone to posibly convert them, if you dont know anything about them? Even if thats not the reason, I dont think one should feel bad about not wanting to be ignorant when it comes to other cultures and beliefs.

I usually TRY to be nice to everyone and not be rude (key word: TRY). So the last time I had JW's come to my door was a few years back and they started talking to me, and after about the third time I finshed off a scripture they had began to quote, they looked surprised. The "more seasoned" JW said "Oh you really know your bible, huh"? I was like: Yes I do. I help teach Bible Study for the youth group at my church." They then wrapped up the session and politely left. I guess by the way I was talking they knew that I wasn't a totally "unlearned" one. I meant no harm because I love engaging in discussions and even debates (as some of yall here on LGM already know) :D

They never came back. :-\

What I got to say to this is... the scripture that says My people are distryed by the lack of knowledge and in all thy getting get understanding...

In order for you to know what is good or back you need to 1. have knowledge abotu it and 2. understand it...

I would like to study other things not to be converted to it but to understand it and then like Under13 said!!!

I also agree with nessalynn77... proceed with caution!!!!!!!!!!!

don't study until it becames you...

I would have made them come in and help me clean up.  The audacity.  the ones in my neighborood are so bold and determined now they just leave the pamphlet in the door because they know that no one will come to the door.

Church, please turn with me to the book of LGM.  Chapter November, 2007.  My topic for this morning is "Doubles Nearly Takes Kirby Salesman To The Treeline."

...and looking for something?  Lord have mercy!  Outside too?  I'd be all in the bushes, the flower pots on the porch, in the mailbox.  (...in my Cedric the Entertainer from Kings of Comedy voice) I wish a JW WOULD be at my door on Thanksgiving.

What we all seem to forget is that they are doing there jobs. If more "Christians" went out & witnessed wouldn't our churches grow more? Anybody ever seen a storefront kingdom hall? Just food for thought.

True.

As for storefront ministries, I think that just shows how divided we are. Why does everyone need there own church? If you go to Brooklyn NY, you will see at least 4 or 5 churches on every block, most are storefronts, and i bet most of them have no more than a few faithful members.

Now I'm not knocking storefronts but it doesent look good when there are so many different beliefs within christianity

I am knocking small churches either, I pastor one! The point I am trying to make is why we bash JW's I really think it could be closet envy. A good example is they come together to build there places of worship from the plumbers to the carpet guys, while we can't seem to get together to help each other out.

I don't think it's closet envy.  I give them props for their structure and approach all the time, but it's all worthless if you promote a false doctrine.

On the issue at hand, ANYBODY who comes to the door peddling ANYTHING on a holiday is likely to get the same treatment from me, lol!

Alright people. The word is THEIR.

There
Their
They're

Each of these three words has their own distinct meanings and proper usages. They're to be used correctly in sentences, so please make sure you're (nout your) using them correctly in the sentence before placing them there.

Like this:

I don't think it's closet envy.  I give them props for their structure and approach all the time, but it's all worthless if you promote a false doctrine.

Nessa you get three smilies for the day!  :) :) :)

Ok sorry I had to get that out. Couldn't hold it in any longer. It's the teacher in me! :D
