Christmas present
« on: December 01, 2008, 01:38:44 PM »
I wanted to step into the custom league at the beginning of next year, but with a three year old who has realized the fun in guitar hero, I spent my bass savings on him for christmas. So he's getting a Wii and the guitar hero world tour hit (I actually wanted it as well and my wife wanted the wii too), while I'll be getting the following. I will be making upgrades, but I don't mind for the price.

Sweet!  I love sunburst. Upgrade 1: Tort pickguard.  Update 2: Audere or J-Retro.  Update 3: Not necessary  ;D

nice!!,  i have the four string and was very surprised of the quality.  i would get the five string but i believe the spacing is sort of narrow.  man put some barts and a audere in there and you have an instant killer.  hope you like it.

The pickguard is actually going to be black. But I will definitely be putting an Audere in it.

I'm not going to sleep on it. I just like the option of having active/passive together.

Sustained.  I would love to hear before and after sound clips, if possible. :)

Then you may want to reconsider the Audere.  There is no passive mode with the Audere.  I've heard some say that one of the Z-modes "simulates" passive, but I haven't experienced that with mine.

Very nice!

If the spacing was a little wider, I'd have one already!

Way to pull the trigger man.  I understand about the wii... though... the folks at nintendo, snagged me too.. :)

Mines sounded good before the Audere swap, too...

my audere has passive,  audere does offer passive as an option.  i also went with the passive tone option that audere offers.  i love this pre, you wont be dissapointed.

I think that may be true of the 3ZB models that can be upfit into just about any bass.  But the JZ3 and JZ5 models that come with the Jazz bass plate and control layout do not come with passive.  I guess if ddwilkins wanted to go the 3ZB route and wire the 3ZB preamp to his current control plate, that would work, but it would require drilling a hole and installing an active passive switch.  The 3ZBs can be ordered with custom configs, including active / passive,  but they cost more than the JZ3 and JZ5 models.

Ok, so I recieved my new christmas present this weekend. First things first, I'm very well pleased with this purchase. I may leave it as it. I've only changed the strings, which I do whenever I get a new bass. This thing sounds good. That's no lie. My bass player, who has been playing for over 25 years, played today at church. BTW, I play keys at church. He has a MIA fender jazz, he never took it out of the bag today. That's how good this thing sounded. I would encourage everyone to get one for a backup and possibly a main bass, if you decide that's what you would want to do.
