Question for the men...women can join in too!
« on: December 02, 2008, 11:07:03 AM »
Does it matter if a woman can't cook?

I'm just asking because a friend of mine just told me that his girlfriend can't cook and is suffering because he wants some fried chicken that ain't from KFC or Popeyes.

I think knowing how to cook should be a staple in a relationship...but I guess LOVE is supposed to surpass the lack of not knowing how to bake or cook!  ;D :D ::)

Heck yeah it matters to me.  :-\

But seriously i think it is very important for a woman who has a man to know how to cook. Even if she can't cook upon getting married, at least she must put an effort into learning and getting better at cooking.

Right. A certain level of fineness can cancel out many shortcomings. Like this one girl I saw in the mall once. She was beyond the SCOPE of fineness. She wouldn't have to have known how to cook CEREAL for all I cared!  :o

Be not deceived, however..cooking is still a highly desirable quality.

A woman not knowing how to cook is like a man who cant protect and provide his family. There are simple things that  men and women should know how to do. (Even in 2008)
Men want a woman to be woman,  just like you would want a Man to be a Man.

Dawg, "fine" wears out real quick.

No no no...don't get me wrong. I believe men should know how to cook also. I cook well enough being a bachelor and all. However i just think it is very important for a woman to know how to cook well. Cooking is one of the few things that a family can do together that involves INTERACTION with each other.

I take a serious stance in women knowing how to cook, cuz its not just about cooking great food for your family, it teaches your kids that whatever they need is close to home and they don't have to go far to look for it. I believe when children or the husband see a wife cooking, it solidifies in their mind that they don't need to leave home for anything. After all momma's got it covered. All the love they need is right here at home.

At least thats the way i view it.

Well, it kinda matters to me, but it isn't a deal breaker because she can always learn to cook from me.

A woman not knowing how to cook is like a man who cant protect and provide his family.

Ummm...no.  Those are 2 totally different levels that can't be compared equally.

Yeah love over takes any lacking or situation in the relationship. Being in Love is something that can't be taught between two people if the feelings were never present. Cooking can be taught and learned.

However, thankfully my mom taught all of her children (men & women) how to do for themselves. Which is why when i get tired of ole'girl i can move on without an empty stomach because i can fry my own chicken, cook for myself, wash my own clothes and go pay my own bills.

When I get married, i don't plan on allowing my wife to cook for us everynight. Anything can happen and wifey might be gone one day, but my babies still gotta eat.... ;D

Well said, Bro. Fen!  I have been spending more time in the kitchen myself for health and economy's sake, lol.  I found that I really like being able to prepare cuisine at home to my liking, I was getting really bored with eating out so much.  I really like when people enjoy something I made, too.  It's an awesome feeling.

Last night I did chicken lettuce wraps at my friends house... ummm good!  I'm gonna have to make that for our next potluck at work.

I like your style.  My brother's the same way, knows how to take care of himself should he need to.

That's a line and a half right there.

But, I believe that it is very important for a woman to know how to cook.  Like it has been said, looks can only get you but so far.  The wife should be able to do more than look good and be good in the bedroom.  Being able to fry a good piece of chicken should be a prerequisite right after being saved, filled with the Holy Ghost and being able to wear 4" heels, LOL!

I don't care what yall say.   Not being able to cook is a deal breaker for me.   (  now like was said before, depending on the level of fine-ness  may impact  how WELL  she can cook),   but not being able to cook at all.....   keep stepping.

Any  person ( man or woman)   who leaves their momma's house and can not cook a lick.......   thats some "real Housewives of Atlanta"  stuff right there.    Just don't fly with me.
