One day by the grace of God, i will be able to afford a real American strat.

Used or year-end clearance is a great place to start.
Local guy here has a few slightly-used American Standards for between $600 and 700 and I've seen them go for $500 and less if the seller is "motivated".

My only resource is Guitar Center and i have been calling and checking the website for the past week or so hoping for a deal of some sort.

So far, nothing. I just need something to tide me over till January 20th when my Gibson MM is coming in.

Oh can i also point you guys out to www.live.com. Its a Microsoft owned website where you get discounts on shopping online. Some of the discounts are killer depending on where you shop. Right now Guitar Center has a 5%-8% discount on items bought online through the store.

Buy a blem from somewhere. They're usually some ridiculous, unnoticeable scuff on the back of the headstock, or something, but they knock off hundreds for that stuff. Sometimes.

a good classic players strat is right there...and about 400 bucks cheaper

Well i got me a Mexican strat today for about $379.

I liked it and just might keep it.

+1 on the CP Strat.  The MIM Deluxe and Classic Series are a great option too.

Mexican Fenders are generally good guitars.  In many cases, the necks and bodies are rough cut in the U.S. and then sent South of the Boarder for final sanding, painting and assembly.  Some of the higher end MIM's actually use US hardware.  Enjoy the Strat.

So far i am enjoying it. I only wish the humbucker it came with was in the neck as opposed to the bridge.

I have a Seymour Duncan neck Hot Rails pickup for sale if you're interested.
It's out of my Strat and it fits a single coil sized pickguard hole, so you just solder it up and go.

Thanks Dave. However i only got this strat so i could have something to play while my Gibson is being shipped in.

So i was trying to setup this thing today and the low E string will not intonate properly. Its slightly sharp. To me it sounds fine but i am hoping i won't have tuning issues down the line.
