Evans is launching a new version of the EMAD January 2009, which is going to be named the GMAD. It's a cross between the EMAD and the G Plus tom/snare heads, which utilizes an exclusive 12mil film as opposed to the 10mil thickness of the current EMAD and most standard 1-ply heads. The extra film thickness will provide a bit more durability as well as more punch to the already great sound of the EMAD. In addition to using the new film, the GMAD also utilizes an improved version of the EMAD plastic ring (the black plastic sleeve that holds the foam damping rings). The profile of the ring will be changed a little to include a radius on the outside edge so that the ring won't crack under extreme conditions.
