back 2 ur subject to me...Well it depends on where you are having your reception at ex. church;... some would probably say that music isn't appropriate for a reception in a church hall or a religous building

Soooo....If he's having his wedding in the church then it's OK to play secular music? What's the difference? You just pretty much said it was a shame before God.

Anyway, on the other hand, some churches may give you a restriction on what you can do during your wedding. If you can't live with that, then it's your prerogative to have your wedding somewhere else.

When my wife and I got married, a lot of church people we knew wanted to have their input. We weren't closed-minded; we listened to what they had to say, but did things the way we wanted to. Some of these people, are now divorced, while my wife and I just had our 12th year! And we STILL feel like newlyweds!

To the part in bold --------> You STAY stretchin' stuff.  ::) :-\

For our ceremony, my wife and I had gospel music; for our reception, we played secular.

It's what we wanted and we asked NO ONE; it was none of their business.  ;) 8)

People STILL talk about our wedding, a year later. *shrugs* Especially my mother, and she's harder to please than anyone I know.....next to my grandmother.  :D

It's your wedding.  Do what you and your future-wifey want to do.  It's your day.  I went to two weddings this year.  They were two couples from my church got married.  One wedding had the wedding and the reception in the same room in a hotel.  The other wedding had the wedding in the sanctuary and the reception in the hall downstairs.  Old school R&B was played at both weddings.  Nobody made a fuss.

However if you decide you're going to throw some gospel artists in the mix why not use wedding song by gospel artist?

Ex:

"I Promise (The Wedding Song)" - Ce Ce Winans

"Wedding Song" - The New Life Community Choir Featuring John P. Kee

"The Wedding Song"
- Damita Haddon feat. Detrick Haddon

"We Can't Lose" - LP

"A Very Special Love" - The Sounds of Blackness

At any rate...it's still your big day

If I had my way, I'd have my bride come down the aisle to "Bonnie and Clyde 03" by Jay-Z and Beyonce.  Cuz I wants me a ryde or die chick.  I mean fellas, wouldn't it be beautiful for the doors to open as that nylon string guitar refrain plays at the info.  Then all of the sudden "LOOK FOR ME!!!!"

BOOYAH!!!!!

Erm... I'm not sure if the lyrics, "All I need in this life of sin is me and my girlfriend" would bode well at a Christian wedding.  Just a thought.

"Young B, cruisin down the westside highway...", oops 4 got where I was at again.  Man, I was just thinking about that song the other day.  I'm gonna have to go listen to that joint one good time.

Anyways, that would sure catch a lot of folks off guard.  For the surprise factor alone, I think that would be neat if someone did it.  Then again:

I dont think many people would have the guts to say that too thier church leaders. You know how some church folk let other church folk run thier lives. (and call it being obedient)

When my cousin got married in 97, his unofficial wedding song was "Who Ya Wit."  During the rehearsal we fooled around and I leaned over and started playing it on the piano that just happened to be right beside me and the fellas were singing it when they opened the doors for the bride to come down the aisle.  All she could do was shake her head but it was too funny.

Congrats to all the soon-to-be newly weds.  I'm getting married in a few months also.  It is completely up to you and your spouse.  If you don't feel convicted from the music you will have playing, then you are fine.

Don't listen to them. You can have a private reception with invitation only with a layout out the activities.

This is what kept me from having a 10th anniversary party.  I have about three clases of people in my life...actually four.

1.  the totally unsaved
2.  Jehovah's Witnesses
3.  Saved, but non-judgemental
4.  All Things Holy

It is because of this mix of people that I decided not to have a party.  I fall in the "saved, but non-judgemental" crowd.  I, too, enjoy a good, clean R&B tune.  But, I have good friends who don't.  I also have those who are not saved who will totally offend #3 and #4.

Honestly, I have come to the realization that receptions are a money blackhole that rarely yeilds any returns.  You pay $50(if your lucky) - $200 a plate and get very little from your guests.  I say pull a Martin and Gina and keep it moving.  Those who are really for you will still send gifts.

As I see it:

I wouldn't go all out crazy just cause I could, but if the songs you chose mean something to the two of you then that is all that matters.  Also you are about to be husband and wife.  There are alot of secular songs that bring up some topics that some people think are taboo.  Saved singles might resist temptations from hearing "In Between The Sheets", but you and your wife can stay in between the sheets as long as you want to and still be holy.  So remember this all  represents your union.  If I were confused, I would talk to one person or couple (max.) for a little guidance.  After that, gett he party started.  Any saved person or other who begins to talk about you or act funny over what you and your bride decide to play to express your love for each other has more problems than you can address.  With that being said.... CONGRATULATIONS - ENJOY EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!
