Gents -
This is a bass that has been kicking around the fringes of my collection for over 9 months and I never did anything with it. Recently, I decided to try and turn it into something a little different/special. I think I've succeded but I want some other opinions.
It started as an MTD Kingston Artist. From there I added an Nordstrand 5.2 and a USA Bartolini 3-band premp -- with a passive rolloff. This thing now sounds HUGE. Ultimately, it has that mid-rangey Music-Man vibe but with the ability to do some interesting tone-shaping.
Cosmetically, I had a clear pickguard made and then I put my Photoshop skills to work. The logo you see is actually on a piece of paper under the pickguard but I think it's a pretty good match.
I'm at a minor crossroads here. On the one hand, the MM vibe is not really my go-to sound -- I prefer J-Basses. On the other hand, I already have 3 other basses that provide my "Meat & potatoes" tone in several different variations. I'm really considering keeping this one - just as a little "Cayenne pepper" to go with the meat & potatoes.
Anyone have thoughts/opinions here?
