Estaban Guitar for Christmas
« on: January 05, 2009, 12:35:58 PM »
What Up Fellas? Happy New Year. I got a Christmas morning suprise, my wife/boys bought me a Esteban acoustic electric guitar. It looks pretty but play terrible. I didn't have the guts to tell them I didn't like it, it's Christmas gift. I'm taking to my guy to get it set up properly. So hopefully it plays better. I was practicing the other day and my son asked me why don't I play the guitar I got for Christmas. So I have to get it fixed so they can see me play it. What strings do you guys recommend for acoustic? I have a washburn acoustic that I love and sounds great. I have no idea what strings are on it. I've been playing it as bought from Guitar Center. I do recall guitardave talking about Seagulls, I played one of those the other day and that baby felt perfect. It seemed like the action and everything was already set and that guitar sounded sweet. I actually got a few comments on some on the chords I was playing.  Anyway, I guess you just need to be thankful for whatever you get.

Lol, don't feel bad. I've been in that situation too.
My wife bought me my first Electric Guitar...
It was a Wal-Mart brand "First Act" guitar. It sounded better unplugged than when hooked up to an amp.
So eventually it got put in the back of the closet a year later when I got better at playing and got my silverburst les paul.
I just told her the truth...
It would cost us more money and time to get the "First Act" guitar setup to sound good and work right than it would cost to get the guitar I need.
But I can't ever throw it away.
It has great sentimental value... ;)

The funny thing is that I had a feeling those Esteban guitars would be crap. The only thing fancy about those is the paint job. I'm pretty sure the electronics in the thing are junk too...

I wouldn't mind seeing any of the paperwork that comes with it...lol.

Well, on my acoustic I have Ernie Ball Slinkys. My yamaha is naturally very bassy and the slinkies even the tone and brighten it up so that it still booms but has good high end too.

An Estaban huh? I have no experience with them, but from what i have seen on You-tube and other reviews online, i wouldn't waste the money to get it setup at all. I mean, if you have the money to burn and want to please your wife and kids then please go ahead. Otherwise it just seems like a waste of good money. Heck, the luthier might even tell you its a waste of money.

I use Elixirs (light mediums) on my acoustic. They are expensive but last a long time and still retain their tone.

The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.

Hehe....very true.
I couldn't get any shops to even consider setting up my old "First Act" guitar.
They pretty much laughed at me and said that it would cost more to get it setup right than it was worth.
