Need help choosing an acoustic
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:48:00 AM »
I play bass but i'm now switching to guitar, mainly acoustic for solo gigs.  Is it necessary to have an acoustic electric or an acoustic that has a mike to it, (what is the preference)

also, i'm looking at guitars on www.americanmusical.com

The size preference would be the Ibanes AEG10 series, because it's comfortable.. is this a good quality guitar and is there something that is similar but better?

Thanks!

In order to use as few words as possible, I will recommend one name above the rest:

Seagull

Maybe this one:

Or:

Went to guitar store and tried the Taylor 114CE, and it sounds good and feels good, also the martin 000X1 and Martin 000cx-1e were very good as well.

Don't really care for the takamines.. and they did not carry Seagulls...

Another one which was the overall best was  a breedlove for $999, but it will take me a while to save up for it.

Seriously, search for a Seagull dealer if you can before you buy. They're made in Canada and offer the most bang for the buck of any acoustic I've ever picked up, which is why I own one and will buy another.  ;)

fyi: The only Taks I've ever played that I thought were ok were their pricey made-in-Japan models.
Breedloves are decent and some of their Atlas models can be ok, too.
Any Martin with an X in the name is going contain their high-pressure laminate woods and should not be confused with a genuine solid-wood Martin.
Taylor 11x models can be ok, but still pricey for what they are.
Music theory is not always music reality.
