I was playing free for almost eight months before they even mentioned money. Now they want me to join. Not. Happenning.

Do you sit through the entire service?
The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.

Na man. I usually slip out right before the sermon, smoke a little weed; you know, so I can get inspired, then I sneak back in in time to play some preacher chords....

....Of course I stay the whole service ::) :D  ;)

Well Chicago pays good, but all depends on the Church and the experience of the musician, beginning musicians can get about 100-200, depending on the church, medium musician gets about 250-350- depending on church as well, advance musicians gets about 375-2000 a week depending on the church, background in music, and size of the church, I know a musician who makes 175.000 a year here in Chicago, but he have the degrees and will kill a church,

My situation is unique and probably outside the norm for most churches. I play for a small church(membership on roll--less than 250) here in North Mississippi and I am cosidered a staff person. My salary is $300/wk--52 wks whether im there or not or whether we're having Sunday service or not. I don't get a scheduled "vacation" but if I need to be out of town on business, family matters etc. it is not a problem. The church just goes "old school" and does all the singing accapella. My salary is taxed with federal and social security being deducted. (Net $252.04) p.s. I am a member.

you got it made brah form what i see you really dont have to play you said they sing there songs accapella and you make 300 a wk even if they dont have service. your situation is not to unusual in Syracuse most of the smaller churches doesnt have as much bills like the bigger churches and they are despret for musical talent and for you to stay that so most are willing to pay that amount
