can't have just one!!
« on: January 22, 2009, 03:07:54 PM »
How many of you have more than one electric?

Can you name them- and why you have them- and how often you use them- and if you feel you NEED more than one- and.......

ok basically I have a strat and I've been looking at a semi hollow body because I am failing to get the sound I want out of my strat.

I have a scheter along with me strat.  I think I should be using them together more often during service.  The humbucker tone will go great with some of the songs that are more metal/rock sounding.  The strat is just good all around  ;D

Right now i only have two guitars: a Strat copy and a Gibson Melody Maker. The MM hasn't arrived yet but it has P-90s which are in between single-coils and humbuckers.

When i get the funds i will get an Epi Les Paul. I just want that humbucker tone.   :)

OH and Gibbers  ;D is absolutely right, the Strat is just a great all-round guitar.

Gib, how often do you use the schecter? I dont wanna have two guitars and one gets neglected while the other one gets treated like cinderella. I just want that jazzy sound and the strat's not givin' it to me.

i have fallen out of love with my strat. like pretty much completely.

my semi gives me pretty much what i want/need except for a lil tremolo action which i would like.

i think its cuz i put DR tight fits on the strat, it sounds like crap (to me). its properly set up and erething, but im not inspired when i pick it up anymore. and the sound sounds almost dead, even with the new strings. hope the fire comes back at some point.

I have a Godin Freeway Classic. It's like a hot-rod Strat and it's probably my #1 guitar for church, along with my Godin Solidac which is similar in construction, but different in shape and it has a piezo bridge, so it can sound like an acoustic.
Those two are my worship axes. I use them Wednesdays and Sundays and Thursdays for rehearsals.

I've also got a Gibson Les Paul Standard that my dad bought for me back in 1982 and I use it in the studio more than anywhere else.
I've also got an ESP 400 Series Strat-copy which my wife bought for me back in '86. When I need a real Strat sound, I use it.

I've got a sunburst maple neck strat, a nashville tele with dimarzio's, am esp ec400vf Les Paul type that has a Seymour Duncan jb/jazz set and a tone-prose bridge and an earvana nut, i have an esp pc2v semi hollow with a bigsby tremolo, i have gretsch silver-sparkle pro jet, and finally an Ibanez RG and an Ibanez sa260fm.

i play them all, love them all, they have their own voice and i used them to either fit the song or my mood. the tele, gretsch, lp and strat get the most love though.

next i want a firebird with mini-hb's and a vibrola.

I practice on my schecter sometimes, but I don't bring it to church.  My strat gives me all the tonal possibilities that I want...for church anyway.  My schecter still gets practice, but no PT.  :)

And fenix...let's just say we bed'not meet in person... >:( >:( >:( >:( ;D :D

Do you have any idea how much I've had to explain this very thing to my wife> lol

Main axe - Peavey Wolfgang - coil-tapped, with D-tuna, so I can do my dropped D, but use my floyd (which I rarely touch lol). Has a good single coil tone, and is like a Bright LP with the HB's.

LP copy beater - has cheap-o hardware for now, plywood construction (it's a Series 10),it is the one that gets played when I only have a few minutes to grab a guitar and noodle. Hangs in the "cave" (TV room).

Dean acous. - Also hangs in the cave. My only steel-string acoustic. I ave a resonator for slide that I bring out on occasion

Tele - Am std with a SD lil' '59 in the bridge (tapped also). When I need spank, pop, twang, or a good bluesy neck pickup.

Dean Evo - set up for slide. Has all the hardware I used to have on the beater (A carvin C22 neck, and a M22SD bridge). The beater used to be my slide guitar.

Rogue 4 str. bass - sits by the computer, I slap and pop waiting on websites to load. I have high-speed, I'm just that impatient lol.

Kimberly (that's actually the brand name) - stays in the case. Remember the Teisco Del Ray's? It's basically that. Before I knew what it was, I hacked it up to put a HB in the bridge. Oops... only worth about $200, but it's the principle... Neck is warped like a monkey, learned slide on this thing (there's a pic at my myspace, if you're interested--it's a nifty looking guitar).

I think that's it. So, 6 of the 8 actually get played regularly.

When I was playing out, I would take the slide guitar, the Tele, and the Wolf.

In church, I would take the Wolf usually, and bring the slide as well, occasionally.

Man... I talk way too much...

I've got an old Steinberger P from the 80's( mini-v) and a Black Les Paul, by Gibson- Historic Reissue.

Gibby, try using that Schecter in the neck position, with the treble rolled all the way off!

Use your thumb, and you'll get that Wes Montgomery tone that Spanky played so well.

It really is just the standard bop players sound.

Play some chord melodies, with that sound, and tell us what ya think ;D!

I have a strat that I've had for years. Didn't know a lot about guitars so when it only needed a neck adustment I went out and bought a Schecter.  :-[  Organist at my church told me about a guy selling a decent Gibson so I checked it out and bought it day after buying the Schecter.  Acoustics I have are a Takamine, an Ibanez, and a Hohner that I only display because it has Peter White's autograph on it.

I guess the reason I have so many is because none of them are what you'd call high quality.  Most fall in the range of $300 to $400.  I've been telling myself that I will spend some real money on a guitar when I start making some real money playing.  (okay that probably won't be happening) Either that or if I can sell all these cheapies and buy one good axe.
I am what God says I am, no less and no more.

It's ok bro'...we are here for you ;D.

I need to get some more guitars.  I currently own:

1. 1993 Fender American Standard Strat (Caribbean Mist)
2. 1997 Fender U.S. Lone Star Strat (3-tone sunburst)
3. 2001 Deluxe Active (MIM) Jazz Bass V (black)
4. Monoya nylon string acoustic...hardly ever gets played.  This was my very first ever guitar.

I used to have a Memphis Strat copy which was my first electric, but once I got a real Strat, the Memphis imediately fell by the way side.  I still kinda miss it actually.  I've got my eyes set on an American Deluxe Strat.
