The TABERNACLE
« on: January 24, 2009, 09:01:54 AM »
Does anyone have any knowledge on this, specifically as it relates to music selections?

What music lyrics are best for the Outer Courts, The Inner Courts, etc. etc?

Also a basic/or in depth overview of why the tabernacle is important would be helpful.

Everywhere, I look online, tabernacle studies deal with the construction of how it was built, and while that may hold significance, as a music minister Im more concerned with the music that goes with these sections.

I had an excellent book that went very much into detail far past the construction. Some firehead hungry for knowledge begged me for it and never gave it back. I will research and see if I can find it for you. I can tell you that the books with the best insight on these kind of topics will not be available at places like Amazon etc..

Wow.  You ready to get into that. Cool 8)

There is also a book on signs and symbols that you will may to read along with it.  I still have that one. I'll see if I can find it online.

I used to teach a class on The Tabernacle at my old church.  It's a heavy subject, but life-changing.  Well... maybe mind-changing is more like it.  Anyway, it's good stuff.  I could share a lot on the subject, but I don't know of any music that specifically or even abstractly relates to the Tabernacle.  Sorry.  :-\

The only ones I can think of are:

In the Holy Place (don't know who it's by, but it starts out, "In the sanctuary where I witness the glory... I hesitated to post that one because actually, the lyrics tend to blur the literal and figurative, IMO)

Behind the Veil by Junie B ;)

Holy of Holies by Junie B -- I think that's the same album

I think I know a couple of others but they all reference moreso the holy of holies than any of the other parts of the tabernacle.

That "In the Holy Place" reminded me of Daryl Coley's "Beyond the Veil" off his Live in Oakland CD.  Apparently Daryl has to go beyond the veil to witness the glory. LOL!  I love that song because he starts crying at the end and it reminds me of the Michael Jackson song where he starts crying... lol.

What about Judith Christie, "A Worshippers Prayer", from the Send Judah First album. Or Shekinah Glory, I think they have a song or two on the Praise Is What I Do album, not sure.....

I did a study on that myself.  I am glad you bought that up.  I may go back and revisit that study.

This is crucial and a vital part to music.  Learn about the furniture inside the tabernacle and its significance.  All of the pieces inside the tabernacle can be related to praise and worship.  Once you learn that, that may make it easier to choose music that coincide with the sections.
