My New MTD
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:41:51 AM »
So, after much thought and wavering back and forth, I decided to trade in my first MTD for an Upgrade on my 2nd MTD The Kingston KZ 5 String!
Enjoy the pics, and watch for drool on the keyboard!

Beautiful bass man!  I always wished they had made that wood combo in their lefty models  :'(

Any plans for modding it?

thats the same joint i played in GC the other day. probably not gonna get it now since i need to get a portable bass head first (unless i come across a monster deal). But since i need to make the most of my schecter in the meantime, i've actually been able to understand the pre-amp settings (new audere 4-band) and been able to get a lot more out of it.

keep us posted. i definitely would love to hear more feedback about this one.

Well I can honestly say this is the easiest bass I have played in my career. My other MTD only had 1 tone knob, it was a smooth sound and played well. It was the first series of the Kingstons I believe, and I picked it up for $325 (I got 50% off when I bought it, the owner had them on the shelves for 1 year and a half and wanted them gone.) But when I went to GC they had this bass here (I don't like GC but they are the only MTD Dealer in town now) I had seen the post that you had posted Floaded about it so I had to try it. Once I plugged it in it was over. Even on a terrible amp this thing just shines, I have never really played a bass that has that many tone knobs on it, and just the sounds you can get out of it are amazing. I traded in my other MTD for $300 And got 10% off for a grand total of $775. Money well spent, I've been playing it since last night on my little SWR LA15 and it makes that amp actually sound like a 1k amp! Its very clean. Man I can just go on and on, I would HIghly recommend that everyone should try this bass and see how it feels, and plays. I was MTD for life before, but now I'm MTD for Eternity. If you are thinking about it fload, skip the amp head and get the bass first, it really is worth it!

See, you guys are gonna get me in hot water with the wife! (actually she doesn't care, I just have to make sure she gets taken care of). I am going by one of the GC stores here in Dallas after work and before bible study/choir practice  ;D

I went on the MTD website and was greeting by a nice funk groove which I have looped on my computer at work and running it over and over again through my speakers. Everyone that comes to my office keeps asking if that is me playing and I can only say I wish but give me a minute!

I just bought my Scheter Custom 5 last year and love it along with my Ibanez BTB 5 series...but after taking in all of the MTD lifers comments and research I may have to break down and get one for my "show and road" bass for my group.

I am feeling that KZ 5 string or the MTD535. I have yet to play one so that all could change one I get the MTD experience. I might have to agree with Anthym Floaded....get the bass first...

You know Carvin has a new mini amp with 500w @ 4ohms for $400....it's also 2 ohm capable if you're planning on lugging a huge rig around town lol

Btw, have you ever considered getting a small foldable handtruck?  I use one for my 12's and can carry my bass, & amp in a gig bag.  Might save ur back in the long run!

Be Blessed,

Wow, is all I can say, I finally reduced my collection down to two Axes, The Ken Smith WBT Elite 5 and my 6 string Ibanez. But looking at that beauty I feel the need for an addition to the family.
Congratulations on the Axe, I pray God uses you in a mighty way as you minister to the masses!

 8)  That bass looks smokin' hot!!  I'm also disappointed but not surprised that this particular wood combo isn't available to lefties.  We always seem to get short-changed. >:(

I've been reading about the MTD on this and on other bass sites and I've got to say that its got me itchin' to reach into my wallet, lol.  Well right now it's between a 5-string MTD or an Ibanez 6-string that I've had my eye on.  So many beautiful basses, so little money to go around :(.

At any rate, keep on thumpin', enjoy your new MTD and may God continue to bless you.

i got a little luggage cart kinda thing for my 2x8 Ampeg combo which handles the small churches fine. but cant take too much because the subway got flights of stairs i gotta carry stuff up or down; only a handful have elevators (most of the ones in the hood dont)

Hello Everyone,

I also went into guitar center and tried out the MTD Z Bass. I really like it alot. I sold my Ibanez SR505 to buy this bass. I've been enjoying it for about a week now. My first gig I'll use it for will be for church this weekend.

J/J....ROFL!!!!!

I played one at GC the other week and I liked it too (not enough to buy it, but i definitely liked it).  The Highs really have a way of sitting well with the lows.

Enjoy the new axes fellas!!!!

tim went up on his prices so that MDM5 is even further outta my range. i would love to have that though. that axe is the hottest lookin bass ive seen (in my opinion). still go to the website to check out the pics from time to time and dream. lol. so unless Tim sends me a 50% off coupon in the mail, the MTD kingston is in my sights for right now.

Got a question about the MTD Bass. is the Z the same as the KZ. at the local GC here in Los Angeles, Cali. They have the same looking bass thats posted here. I started to buy it, but held back for further investigation. I told the guy needed to consult with my brothers and sisters in LGM first before I buy it.

Thanks

to my knowledge, yes. the regular Kingston Z is called the KZ and there's another model, the ZX, that only comes in black (and is more expensive)
