Avatar B212 Versus Epifani PS210 ... and the Winner Is?
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:13:33 PM »
Hello fellow Bass Players, and Bass Masters ... I'm looking for opinions on an Avatar B212 (used, Craigslist, $275) and an Epifani PS210 (used, Guitar Center, $200) ... I'm looking to use it as an extension cab with my 200 watt 4 ohm 1x15 combo ... which cab do you think is the winner in this case ... thanks for your input, I've got to make a decision before somebody buys one of these before I do ... ;D

Wow, an Epifani for $200? What shape is it in? I would go for the Epifani. I'm not a fan of 2x12's. A 15+2x12's is too boomy for my own taste. A 15+2x10's is a better fit, to my ears at least.

if you can score an epifani cab for $200 and its in good shape, get it and leave the avatar alone. Like DW said, 15+212 would not sound too good, but a 15+210 will. I had the 15x210 setup before I went to 4x10.
Keep God first and he'll do the rest!!!

DWBass, ddWilkins, and BassPicker 26 ... thank you all for your insights ... I should have one of these cabs sometime this Saturday ... I was leaning towards the Avatar but it is clear from your comments that the Epifani is the hands down winner! ... I'll go see the Epifani 1st and get a better idea of it's condition and then I'll make my choice ... which ever cab I end up with, I want to thank you for your advice and you should know that the churches that I praise Him in are in for some more bass bottom than before ...

I'd get the Epifani too.  But I'd make sure the head in the combo can go below 4 ohms, as the load will be around 2.67 if the PS210 is 8-ohm and will be 2 if the it is 4-ohm.

I've heard great things about the PS210.  Good luck man.

I think the combo alone runs at 8ohms since the internal speaker is rated at 300w and the amp can put out 600w @ 4ohms. So it's probably running 300w into the internal speaker. Just make sure that 2x10 is an 8ohm cab.

Still haven't made the purchase, but the Epifani appears to have seen some hard days, especially cosmetically ... my combo is a Yorkville XM200, it has 200w with an internal 1x15 ... the minimum impedance of the external speaker load is 4 ohms (one 4 ohm extension speaker or two 8 ohm extension speakers) ... the extension speaker jack is wired parallel with the internal speaker so that the internal speaker runs at 4 ohms ... what do you think?

As the owner of 3 Avatar cabinets, do not discount them. they sound great. This is a clip from a recent performance through an Avatar B210, 4 ohms.

I think you're good with the cab. Yorkvilles can go down to 2ohms. I own a XS800 and it can do 8,4 & 2ohms.

What's happenin' everyone ... I've made my choice and picked up the Avatar B212 (got it down to $240) ... played it though a MarkBass at 500w and Wow! ... I took it home and plugged it into my 1x15 200w Yorkville, and, "I like it!" ... it does round out the sound (I like bigger bottom) and I can't wait to play it in church ... I'm on the look out for a nice 350-400 watt head now, I saw a Peavey Tour 700 at Guitar Center yesterday priced at $300 ??? (but isn't that too much power?) ... thanks everyone for helping me to pick out my 1st extension cab.

Excellent choice. I play thru an old school B212 at the bigger church I minister with. It's a good sounding cab.
