Its been a long time since I posted anything.......
Last sunday, I was asked to play in VA by this church I used to play for. Mind you I live in Maryland. I didnt have a problem going down there to play, since I was on my way down there any way. OK......so I arrive on station and I see the set ( before I left this church, I took great care of this drumset) it looked like CRAP!!!! Ok, so I begin tapping on the toms LIGHTLY (no exaggeration), next thing I know one of the deacons walk up to me and say " son dont play while the people are walking in. I was kinda annoyed because the bass player and the pianist were doing runs and chords from heaven, while m trying to at least TUNE up. So I just did what asked he asked me to.
I will be the first to admit, that i tend to pick up things a lil late (no, I didnt ride the slow bus as a kid!!!

)
But the bass player made me want to punch him in the mouth. Ok, I was at fault for bringing in a giant Vic Firth Stick bag full of sticks to a church where they dont invest in the musicians. So dude says "Let me get those sticks" And like a fool I gave them to him because i thought I was being generous. Didnt get a thank you or nothing, I was about to take them back but something said those sticks can easily be replaced. Dude pretty much punked me and got away with it.
Not done with the bass player......yet!!!
So Im thinking since its been like two years since i played with this church, I thought they would have some new music. WRONG!!!! Same ole songs except for one which I nailed on the first take. Me and the pianist kept keen eyes on each other.....The bass player really thought he was the musical director, cause he kept telling me how to play. He kept yelling For hi-hat patterns when the lead pianist said NO DRUMS ON BREAK (which meant no music period). But the bass player kept nagging bout the hi-hat...so i ignored him.
Lastly. I kept getting blasted by the pastor( hes a pianist too) for playing too loud. This is when you can tell if you are playing for scam artists (which he is...and he KNOWS I KNOW IT) Anytime you take the time out of prayer to tell the musicians that they are playing loud during that so called "touch em 'on the head and they fall out", there is a problem. I never have a problem admitting in the wrong. I was playing loud right along with the other two, because there AMPS were litterally two feet behind me at full BLAST!!!!! My ears were killing afterwards!!!!! I wont ever Come back to that church again!!!!!
