Do you feel free in sharing the skill you learn, that god gave you, with other people, or your the type that trys to hold on to everything you got. Have you ever ask some one if they can show you something they did. What was their response.

For me I dont mind sharing my skills if you ask I will show you. I have ask people to show me some of the things they do, some showed me, and some people would just say man it's easy, and leave me looking clueless, but I must say. Alot of the things I learn I got it from up above, by praying, and seeking for help myself. So that's way I dont mind sharing, because I know where I came from.

Absolutely. No matter how small I think my talent level is, if I have any someone else knowledge at all that can be a benefit and blessing to someone else then I'll share it gladly.

I will share what I know with anyone without a doubt.

Some people have told me I shouldn't, but I think that goes against what God's will is.

I dont Mind sharing What i Know, but as long as the person im showing is very serious. You have some folks out there who been playing as long or longer than me and they want you to show them every thing all the time, and that drives me crazy, because if i can take the time to learn it they can to.but if their a person starting out and really want to learn i will take the time out with them ,and teach them how to play.

Man this scripture applies to everything, everything. As men and women of God and minsters of music, we have to be givers no matter what. We are to be an example to the world and that include some church folks Amen.

its my nature to learn and teach. im not the person that forces themselves upon you for everything. ("here, do it this way" people can be just as bad) but if you ask, im more than willing to give you as much as you need.

besides, as many people who have freely given to me in my journey, it would be robbery not to show this same compassion towards others. if i had to pay for all the help given to me, they'd still be taking it out of my check every 2 weeks. my payment is to help someone else as i climb the ladder.

You are NOT a true musician if you DO NOT share your knowledge of your learnings with other who are striving. Imgaine where music "wouldn't" be if everybody held on to what they learned and didn't pass on the knowledge... The bible clearly states, it is better to give than to receive.

I didn't have a formal bass teacher. I learned by going on youtube and watching alot of other people play. I watched their techniques and other things. I was so glad when guys like Torch 7, knightmayorz, james ross came along. But, I feel like by these guys posting stuff on youtube they showed me their stuff for free so I shouldn't even consider denying anyones request to show them a run or technique. I always say if I ever get big I'm gonna post tutorials for my basslines on youtube if I have time.

Alot of secular and church folk don't seem to realize that God can only bless you if you're willilng to open your hand. Doing so allows us to give AND receive.

I'll definitely share whatever I know. I've taken lessons here and there but I also learned some stuff through watching and recording at church services and youtube videos too. However, there are some cats that don't like to share or feel inconvenienced by it. I remember asking a guy at the church I attended at the time to show me some stuff but he acted like it was a major hassle to even talk to me. I even offered to pay him. I wasn't interested in a long-term deal but just wanted to pick his brain a little bit. He wasn't interested at all. What's up with that?? If someone genuinely wants to learn and get better, I don't see how I could ever refuse to help as a Christian.

I will admit when I was younger, like 17, I wouldn't share anything even though I was getting help from my mentor. There were plenty of times when I seen people watching my hands and I would simply turn away from them. I have learned from those childish mistakes...now, I don't mind showing what I know.

too many musicians out there have this "Saul complex" yes, we as musicians should read the Bible too. (thats a whole other issue that i wont go into right now). They have this thought that if you help someone else, they're going to take your spot. But if you're so irreplaceable then you cant move forward. But if you help somebody get to the level you're at, they can hold that level down while you go on to higher levels. Thats one thing Saul failed realize regarding David. So we can see that those unwilling to help those who God has called will be cast aside by God himself.

That'll preach right there!! I know that throughout all my moves in the military, God has always set it up for me, even before I got there. We just have to have the right 'heartset'. Powerful stuff floaded.

To answer the question, with no hesitation. Sometimes Im too eager to share lol. I just know back in the day when I was coming up, the few bass players that WERE around in Durham wouldnt show me anything, not what the knobs meant or nothing. I learned everything on my own. I promised myself I would never let anyone around me feel like I felt.

Yes.

It's not until you pour out of yourself, that GOD can pour back into you. That's a principle of GOD that effects every aspect of your life (time, talent, money...etc). You ever notice how when yo start to show somebody something, you begin to see different ways of doing it and new things that you can add to what you've been doing for years? That's God's way of rewarding you for helping to further the kingdom. If you really believe that your gift will make room for you, you will never be afraid of somebody taking your spot. Sometimes GOD is moving you out of your old place to take you to a new place.

Part of the problem with many people is they don't realize that we are given whatever we are given to be a blessing to others. Some of us may be self taught but, it was GOD who opened up our understanding. He also has the power to open it even wider or close it all together.

As the word says "Go and make disciples". Thank GOD that all the bass players that I've had the pleasure to meet were willing to share with me.

The keyboard players are another story entirely....

....Now, with all of the positive responses....(here it comes)

....I started off playing drums, and decided to move to playing Bass Guitar...."My Dilema"....

....I can only play Quartet Music.... $:-\$ ....how do I come to understand the progressions in congregational songs and songs that are sung by the church choir? We have no musicians....and I am trying to help out where I can...."PLEASE HELP"!
