Anyone here use a Breath Controller?
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:08:48 PM »
I used to use a Yamaha breath controller quite a bit back in the day.  People would always look at me like I was crazy.  ;D
Anyone else use one?  Just curious.

That's it.  I have the BC2 but had thought about getting the new one.
They are great for horns, synths, or just about anything.

The first time i saw this used was in an Eric Clapton video. It looked amazing! I wish we had something like this. How does it work though?

It's pretty simple.  You blow into the mouth piece as you play the notes.  The sound on the keyboard has to be setup with the right parameters. It's great for horns, strings, pads and stuff.  If you use it on trumpet, you can use your tongue to do staccato.  If you're using sax, you can make it growl.

I am going to mention this to the P&W leader and see if the church will invest in one. However when i looked online, there is barely any info on it. Why is that though?

You don't see them used very much.  I think they're cool because you can control pretty much any real-time parameters and with no hands.
I bought my first breath controller in the early 90s to use with my DX27.  Since that keyboard doesn't have velocity control, I used the breath controller for that purpose.
