Does this device exist?
« on: January 09, 2009, 12:40:53 PM »
Hi,

I have a keyboard that can save songs to its memory, but only in Midi form.  I need to get my songs off the keyboard in MP3 form.  I was thinking if I had something that I could plug into my headphone jack and have it record from there I'd be in business.

Is there a device that will allow me to plug it into my headphone jack so it can record from there?

I have a stand alone cd burner from the stereo system that I use. Before I use to record into a tape player and then record it back to the cd.

Look on guitar center website they might have something you can use.

with or without the computer

Without the device being connected to the computer at the same time.  My keyboard is upstairs in my room and the computer is downstairs in the office.  I'll need to be able to record on the device without it being attached to a computer.  Then I want to able to go down stairs and hook it up to the computer and get the files off of the device.

You could get a digital recorder with a mic in and do it that way. If you had a laptop this would be even easier as well.

Yes, this is the best option... try looking on Ebay for an old Roland VS Series Digital Workstation, they're really cheap nowadays.... or you could check out a Zoom or Boss 4 track recorder... they are really cheap.

These are your only options, as there really are no devices other than ones that would connect directly to a computer...

I assume you are using a casio or a yamaha?? If so, just take it downstairs to the computer room, handle your business, then take it back to your room.

Yeah, my board is a Yamaha DGX520

The reason why I can't take it downstairs is because the day I got it my dad told me that it could never ever leave my room.

Dude, I don't think a kevlar vest and headgear will be enough to protect me.   :D

I have a Zoom H2 that I use for a number of things.  It would certainly do the trick.

There are probably some other less costly ways of doing what you're looking for, but I do know that this would work.  I often plug an auxilary cable into the headphone jack of an amp or pa and record directly onto the H2.  Then I can plug my USB cable from the H2 to the computer and save the MP3 on my pc.  Works the opposite way too.  Sometimes I plug the auxilary cable into the headphone jack of the H2 and output it through an amp or a pa system.

Peace,

James

Tell your Dad to get you a laptop. Go to a computer repair shop, they will have good ones for around $300.

I think you may have to save the songs from the keyboard to a flash drive(i have a YPG-625 so I'm guessing that those also have usb ports) and then convert the midi files to MP3 on your comp.

But your best bet(cause I'm not too sure about my suggestion just guessing from comp knowledge) is probably malthumb's idea.

And if your parents are anything like mine then no a Kevlar vest and headgear would not protect you. ;D
