Confidence is Key

Hello-
Just thought I'd share something that I am finding out in the continual learning process of mastering the organ. No matter what skill level, one of the most important thing is to play with confidence. Even if you are not the "best" (a subjective term), it shows when you play with a feeling of confidence. Insecurity shows up BIG TIME. I've noticed in my playing, as well as friend's playing as well. If you are not confident in where your hands are going, it will show. Mistakes will happen. Don't be afraid to push the boundaries. Safety is boring.

I totally agree.  I don't ever claim to be the best, but part of musicianship is showing confidence in your playing.  People watch and take cues from the musicians when they play.  It's contagious.  It's also part of stage presence.  It helps that you're into what you're playing when you're on stage.

Cosigned. Helps a bunch when playing with a group also. Especially in an orchestra(xD I know classical = ugh to some people but those musicians are awesome), where everyone has to be in sync with everyone else. If you have a First chair who is insecure in their ability, then the whole section can fall apart(I've seen this happen at district Music Performance Assessment).
