I had one but not for long, ended up selling after about a week. When they say its based on the OBP-3 circuitry they weren't kidding. Since I already had an OBP on my bass it was pretty redundant. The AGC gave a nice overdriven tube sound but I never used it. So for me there was no justification for keeping it. There was nothing at all wrong with the product. I think it's great for people who want keep their bass passive and/or need a little added flexibility on a DI. Overall I went back to my presonus tubepre for recording and live until I got the presonus Studio channel. There was a bunch of hype over these that died out kind of quickly but I think they do well in the small DI/preamp market at least better than the sansamp for me. But as far as the sound pretty much everything you hear about the OBP's apply ei. clean, seem to liven the tone, usable eq, and the sweepable mids are nice. The AGC was kind of just a bonus to play around with for me.
Sounding Mathematics.

cool....yea i have a fender jazz bass  that im keeping passive so i wanted to use it for that. also i was going to use as a second tone channel to my eden amp at church and gigs. i didnt really get it for the AGC, but i cant wait to play around with that feature...maybe use on some tunes!!! yea i heard the sansamp wasnt all that great and i wasnt really interested in a bassbone. i also liked the fact i could use it with a poweramp and get that nice organic Aguilar sound...i have an Aguilar 212 cabinet and i love it which was another reason i went for it....thanks man.

I have one that I picked up shortly after they came out. I use it every Sunday as my DI and I sold my Sansamp. I like it especially the sweepable mids. The AGC is nice for some overdrive but you have to be careful when using it mid-song. There is a very noticeable volume increase when you engage the AGC.

It's also hot enough to drive a power amp if you want to use it as a preamp.

Yep, I also had one and liked it.  I got it to use as an outboard EQ for a passive bass (MTD Kingston Heir) but eventually sold the bass to upgrade and no longer needed the Tone Hammer.  As already stated, the AGS is defintely the "go get it" button lol...overall not a bad unit for the money tho.

Be Blessed,
J
