Bass to Laptop
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:41:46 PM »
I finally got my laptop hp dv5-1235dx but there isn't a line-in just a mic port and two headphone jacks. When i connect through the mic i hear nothing while recording, only after, and there no sound at all if not recording etc..... What do u recommend.

God Bless

I bought a Line 6 Toneport UX1 (around $100 at GC). It connects to your laptop via a USB cable, has input for your bass and a microphone, comes with Gearbox and Ableton Lite software.

my UX1 was only 70 bucks. they seem to sell a new version (black/grey) so the old one (black/red) you may be able to find cheaper or get used.

here are some cheaper alternatives, but i cant say how good they are.

Alesis GuitarLink USB Interface ($39.00)

Behringer Guitar Link USB Interface($39.99)

Lightsnake USB Mic cable ($39.99)
(add a few bucks for a XLR to 1/4 inch if u dont already have)

Does anybody know if this will be recognized when using live bass on FL Studio XXL (Fruity Loops)?

Behringer isn't all bad.  I wouldn't trust their amps, but they've got a few good pieces of gear that you may want to consider.  I've got my eye set on the GDI-21 (guitar amp simulator/DI box...there's a bass verson too)which is a rip-off of SansAmp's GT-2.  While many have criticized the quality of their pedals, this particular box has actually been praised as being of good quality.

if its recognized as a valid audio input source by your computer, just about all programs will recognize that. you would just have to go into the options or preferences and change the audio input source.

Sounds like you just need to go into your sound properties and make sure the wave volume is turned up. You need to showw all of the recording and play back sliders then make sure they are up.
