Pr 29 tone cabinet
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:00:08 PM »
I have a Pastor friend who maybe purchasing this along with a Hammond A-100, any opinion on quality especially compared to a leslie.

Thanks,

Pastor Jeff

Dont have a lot of time to respond, but they are worthless and dont sound anywhere as good as a leslie. The A100 has a Pr20 built into it, so he may as well save the money and space on a leslie 147, which goes best with a A100

And its probably a PR20, not a 29

I Think I just saw the one on craiglist that he's looking at. He better hurry up and get it, thats a good price. He will not get that true Hammond sound without buying a leslie though

I couldn't wait to hook my A100 up to a Leslie.  Sounded pretty bad to me coming through the built in speakers.  Some people like the tone but I don't.

Sometimes it's good to have a PR-20 or PR-40 hooked up with a Leslie.  The Hammond tone cabs can give you a bit more bass response than the Leslies.  When you run both a Leslie and a Hammond tone cab together, it can produce a desirable sound.

not impressed with the PR at all!!!!!!!!!! However, guy i knew had a 122 hooked up in sequence with whatever cabinet has 11 speakers- 9 facing front;2 facing down.as you kicked the Leslie from fast to slow, the other cabinet would cut in/out;sitting 20 across the room produced a cool effect.

I have a PR-20 at home, working with a 710 Leslie. I LOVE the sound of the tone cabinets along with a leslie!!  The tone cabinets have a very rich tone and give an harmonic blend that you just can't get from the leslie alone.

The PR-20 is actually a home unit and only has a 20-watt amplifier.  If the church is small this unit will yield good sound.  If your friend has a large church however, he may want to look at one of the large tone cabinets that have a 40-watt amp. (Same wattage as the 122 & 147 leslies.)
I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth...

Sounds like a good idea to me.  I've never done it or used a Hammond with that hookup, but I think most can say the Leslie could definitely use more bass.
