Personally,

from dealing with praise leaders... I would tell you that no book can upfront prepare you for this role. It may help but as a leader, you are the one who must lead the saints in worship. It is your job to set the atmosphere via song.

The most important thing to any successful praise team leader is learning to flow. By flowing i mean, learning that many sundays the spirit will not allow you to sing the songs rehearsed or even in the order you prepared them.  Leading worship means, even when you feel a pull in the atmosphere, you should know how to transition into different songs and communicate with your praise team so they can follow your flow.

Moreover, prayer and a good relationship with your team members will get you a long way....that's all i have to offer lol

Yea, I pretty much cosign this. I'd add that as a Praise Leader, listen to your team. Allow suggestions, nuture others to lead (so that you don't feel like you have to be there every Sunday or else it'll fall apart). A great leader leads when they aren't there.  ;)

Never do a song, in a moment of praise or worship, unless you can teach it to the team and congregation on the spot. P&W is NOT the time to improv (unless you're SURE God is leading you to do so).  :D
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you learn how to flow and LEAD The people into the presence of God. Trust me it will be a challenge because some members wants do it this and that way. By I say listen to God, and get a clear cut vision from your Pastor.
Like Right Now, My pastor is giving me songs that God has placed in his heart so Im learning how to submit and learn to lead the songs my pastor is giving me even though its not my type of music but it thee in it will help me for my type of ministry.

Cosign this, unless its a really really really really really old standard that everyone knows. Where I played we had a few songs that we would revert to as the spirit led. But generally it should be something that every one knows if you throw it in there. There have been lots of times where I'm at the Piano/Keyboard and the P&W/Choir director has called out songs that I didn't know(they weren't supposed to be in the line-up that Sunday...).So I've had to fake my way through a lot of Sundays. xD

Its also important that your praise and worship is at the same speed or matches the Word that God is giving...your Word can't be at 50 and your praise and worship be at 5...so stay in your Word and be mindful of the Word for the house...be blessed and I'll be praying with you...
And I Want You To Say Well Done....

I thought about this point!
Try to find worship songs that doesnt have a THOUSANDS words (you get my point :))
just because it slow doesnt mean its worship, just because its fast doesnt means its praise
