Contemporary vs. "Chuch"
« on: May 05, 2009, 10:06:12 AM »
Hello,

First, I should clarify something.  I want to be able to play traditional style gospel mixed with some contemporary chords and runs...And Vice Versa.  In my church we can go from "Jesus Keep me Near the Cross" to "Never could have made it" (or something contemporary).  I have purchased some DVDs but most deal with contemporary style which have more of a neo soul feel.  And that's cool, however I need to be able to just have some "chuch" too.  ANY help regarding this would be appreciated...PLEASE.

Also, as I am learning the musicial zip code in each key, I hear different songs that can come from 7-3-6-2-5-1.  However, can anyone give an example (hopefully with chords and lyrics) that will show that exact progression in a song?

Lastly, Passing Chords.  When moving through the zip code in 4/4 time, are there any suggestions for passing chords?  Thank you all for the knowledge and Be Blessed!!

This may or may not be what you're looking for, but here are some songs where I broke down the chords into progression numbers:

"Battlefield" Norman Hutchins (chord help): http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,65647.0.html

Breakdown of "Calling My Name" by Hezekiah Walker: http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,45319.0.html

“Leaning On Everlasting Arms" Timothy Wright (I think): http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,56169.0.html
