I'm contemplating.  The junior sound guy was running it on Sunday, and he had some problems.  I had to use a free download of a recovery program to get it off of a corrupted disk.  The first part of my message got cut off, but I guess I can just catch you guys up so you'll know where I was coming from.  Then there's a little part that's rough somewhere towards the end, it cuts out and comes back in, there's just a few seconds missing there.

It's something that comes with time.  Before long you're comfortable up there and you can just speak.

Note: Others will generally have a more favorable view of your preaching than you will.  When people tell you that you did well, believe them.

Some protocol that my Bishop taught me:

When you're handed the mic:

1. Thank/honor the person who handed the microphone to you.

If you're visiting another church, honoring the Pastor of that church would be #2.  If not:

2. Honor the visiting ministers.

3. If your Pastor is there, honor him/her.  If your Pastor is not there, give thanks for him/her.  It's not proper protocol to say "I honor _______ in their absence".  You cannot honor someone in their absence (though people do it all the time).  You can praise the Lord for him/her.

4. If you're married, honor your spouse.

Good stuff.  I am hypercritical of myself, and I wondered if everyone was able to follow me without getting lost, because hearing something stated verbally can be harder to follow than writing it or seeing a demonstration.  My opening was pretty detailed, and I was breaking down the first verse into three categories, and kind of giving definitions, but afterward a few people were telling me that I made it very plain and simple, which is what I needed to hear, sometimes you don't know if everyone is still following you.

@sjon, I have to make a copy for my parents when I go home tonight, so I'll TRY to upload it tonight, lol.

That's awesome, Nessa! You gotta give us at least a snippet of it...that's one of my favorite Psalms and your sermon title only peaks my interest the more. Also, please send me your itinerary and speaking fee so that we can book you for the next Y!Church Tent Revival.  ;D

T-Block, I know you did well, bro. The way you post here on LGM shows that you do things in excellency. I like that. It's something God has even been dealing with me about lately. Anyways, we're going to need your contact info as well...you'll be on schedule for night 2 of the Y!Church Tent Revival.  ;D

Y'all please pray for me.  My first time speaking the main Sunday Morning message is quickly approaching. I actually feel more confident as God has given me a Word.  I just pray nervousness or fear will not hinder the flow of the Spirit.  On top of that, I have a lot of obligations thrown at me this week that are taking up a lot of my free time and limiting my study and consecration time.  Just please pray that God will have his way.  Thanks, fam!

It's not proper protocol to say "I honor _______ in their absence".  You cannot honor someone in their absence (though people do it all the time).  You can praise the Lord for him/her.

Why not? (Not challenging you; that's a genuine question).

And of course, congrats to you both, T-B and Ness.

Oooooh, yeah girl. Work on that.  I just went to a church Sunday morning where the pastor had the worst fillers ever.  It became such a distraction for me (because I'm anal-retentive like that).  ::)

I learned some really good ones from my former pastor, but I'd have to hear your clip to see if they'd work in that case.  I also learned how to avoid them altogether when I took Public Speaking in college.  I probably need to take that class again... or at least a refresher course.  :D

You mean explain what fillers are, or explain this guy's use of them on Sunday?

what are fillers?

Fillers are those words you use while trying to think of what to say next, or while searching your mind for the right words to use.  A few easy examples are: ummm, uhhh, and... or in church you'll hear: Amen, glory to God, hallelujah, c'mon church, turn to your neighbor, etc...
