I bought AFT when i first started. I haven't used it in months. I've migrated to a program called "Band in a Box". It has some tremendous improv and ear training tools. The two features I like is the chord progressions and the style maker. First, you can enter a chord progression, and choose a style and you will get a track that adds drums, piano, guitar and sax! Or you can select a song style and let it create the bass part for you. After you work through the song, you can mute the bass and create your own part. Once you are satisfied, you can record your part and make it a part of the song!

This works for me, because once I create somthing I like, I drag it into Ableton Live to polish it up. It takes me directions I may not have thought of on my own. Also, because the program has matured, there are alot of songs that match the various "gospel feels" I like, as well as having transposition on demand. I could go on and on. Its just that good. Have fun with AFT!

kevmove02, I've heard and read reviews about this program called "Band
in a Box". All positive, so when I research for best price for the program, I guess I'll have double up my savings for it. Any suggest-
ions for what would be a good price to pay for this program ?

I would first look at all the variations and decide which features are most important. If you are only looking to use it as a practice tool, don't go hogwild. Pick the style sets that most interest you.

Secondly, don't buy direct. Unless I missed something, you won't get too many discounts that way. I got mine during a big sale with a promotional gift card. One website is selling the pro version for $89.00

If you haven't already, download the demo. While BIAB can be a recording tool, it is not designed to be one. So if you are looking for something that works as a training tool and as a DAW, look elsewhere. I personally compose with BIAB then export to Ableton Live for recording purposes.

Finally, I own Guitar Pro, Garageband, Ableton Live, and a whole host of other music software. Band in the Box is the only one that is design for the purpose of becoming a better band member.
