The legendary educator, Jim Chapin has died.

I tried to tell Modern Drummer to pay homage to the living legends before they left this Earth in the form of a festival...  *smh*

A festival would have been very nice considering all the great drum legends that have passed on over the last year to two years: Max Roach, Earl Palmer, Louie Bellson, Mitch Mitchell.

I was hoping to get to see Jim in person one day. I guess I will have to settle with revisiting my first introduction to him, the VHS instructional: Speed, Power,Control, Endurance. From which some of the clips on drummerworld came.

Jim had a huge effect on drumming. He was probably the last living student of Francis Moellor and noted the best student. His books Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer I and II help mold next level drummers such as Dennis Chambers. One can only hope that we do not let his contributions go unstudied by this generation or those to come.
