Well, they weren't recently dropped, but they sounded good in the low end when listening to them at the Apple Store.  You can also test them at Best Buy.  For $299.95, I would suggest some in-ear monitors (IEMs), with custom molds.  Take a look at this link to see some of their suggestions:

I would also suggest getting some IEM!!! Go to www.inearz.com This is where I got mine when I visited Florida and they are custom molds.  It was the greatest investment ever and it was very cheap. Dr. Fischer is really cool and will hook you up lovely.  Trust me on this!! You will not dissapointed.

Thank y'all for the feedback, I really don't like "in-ears" because of the discomfort but i guess being that these would be made custom would eliminate that issue. Hey mendoza which ones do you have??

I have the dual drivers.  IMHO after dual it's kind of overkill LOL!!! The duals have enough juice and they are superisolated!  So be careful that you don't turn them up to high because you'll hurt your ears.  Also since you're isolated be careful not to overplay.  You will find yourself playing harder and that will hinder your hands.  So ultimately if you have a good sound engineer and/or an AVIOM system (or any other Personal Monitor System, mixer, etc.) Then you're good! Plus you can use them for your IPOD when you don't want to deal with anyone on a bad day LOLOL!!

Little late to the party, but I wanted to give you a couple of other sites to check out and offer up my brief experience with these headphones.  To me the "Dr. Dre Headphones" were a little bright for my taste.  After a little while of listening, my ears started to get a little fatigued.  Maybe after some breakin time they will "mellow out", but j_kay has given you the best advice "go and take a listen for yourself."

I currently use the Sennheiser SD 280 Pros and I love them.  They are also about $200 cheaper and give great sound isolation (-12 to -15db).

I also have a dual driver model - the Shure E5.  When the triple drivers were released, I wanted to get those, but my dual drivers does just fine for me, plus I have the custom molds.

Good points, MENDOZA...

Also, the headband portion is prone to breakage, if you're not really careful with the Beats (by Dre)...

I have used some on a gig and one of my friends has 2 sets. The clarity and low end in these headphones is phenomenal, but most people might not notice. I play with headphones and in ears often and for me the difference was noticable on hip-hop/R&B-ish gigs/sessions. I have a set of the Vic Firths and some Audio-Technica ATH-M50's. The VF's make me sweat and I tend to play harder to get a good mix between the kit and what I'm hearing coming through the headphones. The AT's are a lot lighter in weight and can handle more than the VF's without me having to kill myself playing. They're not nearly as expensive as Dre's though. Pro's and cons to everything. If you definitely don't want the "in-ear" style, Hit your local music store and take a listen. Continue to do research. I don't know what your needs are in headphones, so all I can do is give you my experiences with these products.
Love God. Live Long.
