Chords?!
« on: October 21, 2009, 03:14:31 PM »
I'm attempting to figure out the fingering for chords on my bass. I think almost all of them just sound a like muddy mess. Could someone point me in the right direction of chords that sound decent on a bass?

try 7th chords. I may be able to make a video for chords and how to use them in the future.  Maybe a week or two.

Play them in the higher register of the bass.

well he's what I do and it almost always sounds good. Besides the whole 1,5 and 1,5,8.

I like  to use there. If you play anything on the E string high or low and also play one fret higher on the G string you get a 1 and major 3rd, which will give you and major chord. That's nice. one song I play uses those. Then if you again playing anything on the E string and play the same fret on the G you get a 1 and a minor 3rd, which will give you a minor chord.

Some may wanna call this is double stop but it still get the job done.

You can also, try playing around with the EQ settings, to alleviate some of the muddy sound.

One of the easiest things to do is change the voicing of the chord. Try this (4 string bass- form applies to any bass): AMaj7th chord: E string 5th fret finger an A- skip/mute the A string and finger a G# one fret(6th) up on the D string- finger the C# on the G string (same 6th fret). Notice this uses the root, 7th and 10th of the chord: no 5th. Now you have your bass note low and the 7th and 10th of the chord on top. Sounds great and is movable all over the board.

Take a look at this site.

Good stuff there..

I usually just use either 4ths, 5ths, 3rds or what MikeGee suggested.. I find that that usually works well at the end of a song or section.. I usually just use them in passing too because I know my limits.. :) but that site is nice..
