Fear vs. Common Sense

To sum it up, I got accused of being fearful because I didn't want to go through with a project. Common sense dictated that the project wouldn't be a good idea because no matter how you looked at it, the outcome would be questionable at best, and it had the potential to become something messy and unflattering. The Word says we shouldn't be fearful, but I know that there's a difference between being fearful and having common sense and good knowledge and I'm trying to find some scriptures to back it up. Can I get some help here in finding these scriptures?

I have to be honest with you, buddy.  I could give you a list of applicable scriptures, but the truth is, I don't see the point. 

Why do you have to prove your point with scripture?  Why isn't your "no" enough?  Who cares what your accusers say? And to be honest, I think the reasons you listed are sufficient without scripture.  You don't need a scripture to tell you that something has the potential to be messy.  If you're not afraid and you know you're not afraid, that should be enough... IMO.

Not quite. It was a project for a website frequented by many in the gospel community, many of you have probably been to it, but I'm not going to disclose its identity though for that would be messy and that wouldn't be common sense. I'm trying to find a scripture because the accuser kept using the whole "God doesn't give fear" thing, and I know what scripture they were referring to. While I was able to tell them that God gives us common sense, I felt it would be better backed up with a scripture. It's all in the past now, and I'm truly glad that it is, but it was just on my mind.

To his "God hasn't given us the spirit of fear," I would reply, "you're right. I'm not afraid at all."

And that'd be the end of that.

I was gonna post that scripture, but I didn't know exactly where in Proverbs it came from.

Yea, I'd have to agree with Vonee and would've completed the scripture reference for the naysayer (if I would've remembered it during the conversation ).

Although, since I have a version of the Bible on my BB, I'd have found said scripture, then finished it for them.

I feel people sometimes use bible scripture when they want to convince you to do something or put power behind what they're saying. That doesn't phase me any. I'm one of those people who can say no. I won't feel guilty about it either. If they want an explanation...I'll give them one, if I feel I can put it into words that wouldn't be offensive.

Anything that has to do with uplifting the ministry of God I'm more than likely going to be a part of it. If I feel someone is doing something for "their own" purposes then I don't mind saying no, I can't help. I don't need a bible verse to back up why....
