Okay,post me something.

please try to understand the difference between an influence and sounded JUST LIKE something. No, you won't hear much brad paisley blazin chicken pickin in a gospel/quartet....you WILL hear alot of double stops, what you refer to as the bounce, minor blues/major blues runs, etc. I never said that it would sound exactly like country, just that the influence was there.

it's like when I hear brad paisley use octaves like Wes in some of his instrumental stuff. it doesn't sound just like Wes, but i can recognize the influence.

a true guitarist/musician has the ability to listen to and absorb various styles and make them their own. you hear hints of where it came from, but it's still original. that's the difference between being influenced by someone and being a poor imitation.

Congregation songs,is before church service starts.Hymns, are normanlly  what you opens the service up with.Blues, yea for sure.Country, not in the baptist church. Yes,some from western standard music.Jlynnb1 yes pretty standard stuff. But,there is the opportunity,to make things interesting. This music is so fast,it`s sometimes hard to get licks in between chords.Somethings to use,is the gospel scale, and the gospel bounce.Throw in some quartet licks, use that pinky. 8)

Can someone please explain this ( congregation songs are be fore service starts) ?/? I always thought of them being a part of the devotional service. ::)

yeah i know the difference...but imho the only chance to make things very interesting is if the whole band is trying to. if most cats are playing traditional styles and you are trying to throw in outside stuff it's not gonna sit. also, if you don't think country guitar influences that stuff you are crazy....especially anything remotely related to quartet/old school church music. all those quartet licks some of you guys love have so much country influence in them it's crazy. just goes to show that everything influences everything else...whether we realize/admit it.

I agree with Mr. Mod to a certain extent. I don't know much about country music but I do know alot about Quartet I've been singing it for about 13 years and playing it for as long as I've been playing the guitar. I have heard some similarities. Now who influenced who I don't know.

** Guitarist Tip from The Video **
"Fully 80% of your Baptist hymns can be performed and sung to the same rhythm, chord forms and guitar licks as 'Hot For Teacher' by Van Halen" -- Gospel 101  ;)

Who'da thunk it?!?   :o  :o

I've always felt that Eddie Van Halen's rhythm playing is adaptable to gospel.

EVH had groove.
"I'm the one" has such an awesome fast-shuffle feel to it..."Beautiful girls" has a great mid-tempo shuffle..."Little Dreamer" has that urban street at night feel to it..."Take your whiskey home", again with the mid-tempo shuffle..."So this is love" have a killer shuffle feel to it...and I could go on and on, but the point's been made.

devotional is in the start of service but the quote was:

Congregation songs,is before church service starts.Hymns, are normanlly  what you opens the service up with.Blues, yea for sure.Country, not in the baptist church. Yes,some from western standard music.Jlynnb1 yes pretty standard stuff. But,there is the opportunity,to make things interesting. This music is so fast,it`s sometimes hard to get licks in between chords.Somethings to use,is the gospel scale, and the gospel bounce.Throw in some quartet licks, use that pinky. 8)

But maybe i just misunderstood the whole debate. no biggie though.

well I checked out the DVD and it's pretty good. It's definitely not for beginners. At the very beginning it might seem like it but he quickly goes into the good stuff...

I downloaded the G-G-101 course and like it. Be prepared to hit the backspace(rewind) key to repeat some key points. The split screen format is good and Bobby has a personality you'll like.
I look forward to G-G-102 Lead Guitar soon.

RonnieJR99,
When you complete downloading the two DVD file to disk, copy/burn them to your own DVDs for backup/CYI.

I have bought one or two Hear and Play DVDs and they are actually all pretty good. Like most DVD instructionals, they just need discipline to go through them. The tendency is to rush through and look for the good stuff without being patient. Take it chapter by chapter and you should be fine.
